I recall that the Boys Battery Numbers all commenced with 1157 - did the War Office have a sense of humour in those days? Smile

My number for 1949 began with 222xxxxx. Some of the Royal Signal boys at Harrogate at the time only had 7 numbers beginning with 2549XXX. They date from around 1946/7 etc.

Brum,

Reg No beginning with 1917 looks like a Royal Engineer service number of the 7 digit variety. Also, it could be from the WW2 era. Been looking at Commonwealth War Grave Records which show quite a few RE fellows with numbers beginning with 1917, buried from this time in mostly the Royal Engineers although there were some anomolies such as a couple from Royal Pioneer Corps etc.
Also, the reallocated of Army Numbers was introduced in 1920 as per Army Order 338 (1920) and show the block allocation to the Royal Engineers as 1842000 -2303000.

Hope this info is of some use

i always used my last 4, 6548, as my pin number, seemed an easy one to rememeber. my credit card got compromised in indonesia and the bank sent me a new one, with new pin to follow in a seperate envelope. i was really pissed cause i would now have to remember a new pin till such time as i could get back to NZ and have it changed. i neednt have worried, when the pin arrived it was 2412, my forst 4. spooky eh !

I wouldn't mind betting that just about every ex or serving uses a configuration of their Number as a security code.
