| We may have known each other then Dandc, but I doubt it, the various units in Hobart didn't mix much did they. Did you eat in the mess hall by the parade square opposite the HQ Building? | |

| Had a wooden house at Catterick once. Never really had a bad one but the flats in Poggenpohl were full of cockroaches despite frequent spraying.
Never had a bad march out but that is another thread really.

Len (Ciphers) Len you're in Canada now. Hasn't any one told you about rubbing candle wax or soap on the zippers?

| Speaking of zips. On a stop over on exercise, a Sgt decided to kip under a Bedford. In the middle of the night this guy decided to have a slash under the same Bedford. The Sgt ,bundled up inside the Green slug, could not get the zip of the sleeping bag to move. He got soaked. Talk about being Pissed Off. |

Len (Ciphers) Ouch.... Just the thought is painful. Only happened to me once...I was in the middle of a slightly impromptu -- uhm -- interaction when the boyfriend returned and I had to zip up in a helluva hurry. Caught my foreskin in the damn thing and couldn't get it up or down (the zipper, I mean!!!). I quickly pulled the shirt tails of my shirt out and everything was cool, except the piercing pain I was experiencing but I visited the little boy's room and -- I suppose -- FINALLY managed to get loose. I swore I was going to book a circumcision appointment ASAP after that!! (never did, but also have always been very careful about zipping up when going "commando" in snug jeans!!)

| Who remembers the DPM Combat Cap? Not that I remember ever wearing it! Or the Green 1960 Pattern one for that matter. Then of course there was the detachable hood as well. _________________ Sua Tela Tonanti

| Claymore,
You've reminded me of the time we were sentenced to wear No2 dress. The stupid No1 Dress cap became known as Hats, Hilarious, Hats, Humorous Caps, Comical or , simply the C*** Cap. Those DILAC hats were only issued in one size anyway. Idiots!

| Brum,
I think that there might have been two generations of No1 dress cap. The early version had a very high crown and I remember them being referred to as 'chef's hats'. The RUC service cap followed this pattern.
Later 1 dress caps seemed to be toned down a bit.
You could have held a parade on the Soviet version. |

| We had to wear the DPM hat on Crusader 80 as well, in the Field Ambulance. Never managed to feel quite so stupid ever again in my career. When they got wet they shrunk with the obvious result to the wearer! Along with puttees they were the worst thing ever issued. | |

Actually I have my DPM hat right here in front of me.Like you, I think the only time I've worn it is when I was attached to a Field Ambulance unit. Some guys used to pull the crown at the upper seam down to touch the middle of the peak. Making them look like a rebel from the American Civil war |

| Looking across the field towards the Field Ambulance Unit (RCAMC) in Rheinselen. Just when unification came in, in 67/68 A lot of them were RCN wearing combats and their white issue Navy caps. Looked like they had seagulls on their heads from a distance. | |
