| One of the lads in my unit had given a young MSO a crash course in English on how to answer the ASM. " F Y, sir." The ASM soon made a beeline for the most likely lad who would have done such a thing. |

Why not? The only thing that made the service as a conscript in the Bundeswehr bearable? You are a sadist! And in the NAAFI bar in Bracht and at the disco in the RAF Brüggen gave it enough alcohol to drag at least 3 units from the market. I have tried it and almost lost my driver's license due to drunkenness. | |

| Alas, RAF Bruggen or Javelin Barracks as it is now known is about to close once 7 and 16 Signal Regiments move to MOD Stafford. The ARRC HQ has already left Rheindahlen and moved into the old RAF HQ at Innsworth. | |

| Immediately post war. Selected MSO units were trained and carried out Armed Guard duties on the HQ and other British barracks in Hamburg. I am not sure when they stopped doing armed duties for the British Armyy? I believe the Motor Transport units were formed soon after.
Of course much later, possibly late 1980's into the nineties, some armed guard MSO posts appeared. I suspect that they joined the new set up, which was something to due with the Germans.
I believe one of our forum members was involved in the new MSO. Maybe he can enlighten us?

| Well during my time 67/72 we had plenty of MSO but they were used as labour, moving MFO in and out of the depot and also baggage handlers at the Air Trooping Centre Dusseldorf

| during my time in the old coffee factory in viersen known as .rhine sub depot 15 abod , we had a large contingent of mso , the mso outnumbered the lads of the raoc in residence at viersen , they did all the guard duties at the old depot and the same when the new depot was being built in the latter half of 1950s, they were billeted in the vast attic areas of the old factory , they had their own guardroom and cookhouse , they were all armed with lee enfields mark 1 models , all loaded with ammo , they were very smart and well turned out men , well drilled , a fine body of men as our csm used to say , one thing about the mso , if you needed anything at all , from a car to a camel or even a tank the mso could get it at a price , arthur daly could have learnt much from the mso , ginger | |

| All fascinating subjects, but have you forgotten that it is time now that you put your mind to those presents for Christmas and not leave it to the last minutes. You, or most likely your Dad’s or his Dad will want something thoughtful and interesting as a gift. I have worked hard and burnt much midnight oil to make this possible for you. Why not look at the following internet site and happy reading to all.
