| Subject: Hemer: Former Bluecher Kaserne Opens Landsgartenshau 7/5/2010, 21:30 | |
| I often also visit Flikr for pictures and discussion of some of the areas I lived in while dad was stationed in Germany (Hemer, Hoennetal towns, Soest, Iserlohn and anything else I can come up with like "Deilinghofen" or "Apricke" etc) and one of my correspondence, dididumm, lives between Hemer and Iserlohn and often post pics of Hemer as it is now. She recently posted pics of the Landesgartenshau opening in the former Bluecher Kaserne (later Fort Beasejour). Quite interesting what the city fathers have done with the old barracks. Across from the barracks, up on a high hill, they have erected a rather odd looking but nevertheless interesting tower (Jübergturm), accessed by a long stepped promenade. The view from the top of the tower out over the former barrack site and parade grounds towards Hemer is quite spectacular and really gives one an idea of the topography of this region. Hemer was always a bit...boring...but certainly the landscape in which it is situated is pretty. here are some of the links to her pics: http://www.flickr.com/photos/dididumm/4532519158/http://www.flickr.com/photos/dididumm/4532556508/ | |
