| After a very good thread on the BAOR Ambulance Train, Did anyone do a Train Guard?
I did two from 3 BAPD to Zebruger, one being a return trip as the relief crew failed to turn up!

| Can I ask that we add memories of the regular (monthly?) British military rail freight service which complimented the Berliner Passenger train to this query?
The Guard Force must have been found from one of the Berlin resident Battalions but there is little on record. Where for example was the start point in the Zone (presumably one of the major Ordnance depots)?
I believe urgent stores were carried in a freight van attached to the passenger train (DB goods wagons braking systems were compatible with passenger stock)

| Why not, since Ammunition was also shipped in & out of Berlin by rail.
Small items of 'Red Star' Priority Stores were carried in the Guards Van on the Berliner itself I believe? _________________ Sua Tela Tonanti

| I did my one and only ammo train guard from Moenchengladbach to Zeebrugge in 1995 - a day trip out standing guard watching (like a hawk - honest) that all the ammo was lifted into the ship - I spent most of my time chatting to a dutch army female warrant officer who was - wow..... nuff said. | |

| Not quite in your era but I've done many train guards when armoured vehicles have been moved by rail from places like Paderborn, Sennelager and Osnabruck up to Emden for shipping to Bosnia, Kosovo and Iraq. Also did a train guard from the port of Ploce up to Banja Luca which was awesome. | |
