| I've had several responses to my request for info re "barrack name in Osnabruck" "Mickies" has cropped up in most and prompted me to hunt through my old photo album for the attached post card which she presented me with on my demob bash, along with an ashtray and a couple of bier glasses (at the expense of my tie, which she cut off and pinned up, along with a number of others, behind the bar.) Mickie was quite a character, and I'm sure has provided some happy memories in later years for not a few. As she did to homesick squaddies at the time. She genuinely seemed to take an interest in us. https://2img.net/h/i838.photobucket.com/albums/zz306/brrowe/IMG_0001.jpg | |

| Seeing who I assume is Mickie wearing a "kittle" made me smile.
I don't know if German woman still wear this, but back in the 60s and 70s it was ubiquitous.....every hausfrau wore one over her clothes. My mom adopted it as well.
Very practical as it 'saved' one's nice clothes....much better than a plain old apron.

| It wasn't Mickie in the photo, but one of her staff. If it had been a photo of Mickie, even in a B/W photo her vivid lipstick would have come out red. | |

Now there's an image LOL But, yes, I understand....I came across a few women who ran/owned gasthofs or other places I frequented (oh gosh....that doesn't sound good, at all...I meant legitimate places...you know....discos and such!!! LOL) who clearly believed if a little bit of lipstick was good, massive amounts plastered on was better! And the redder the better, too.
