I think most forum readers will now be asking themselves after watching the Pathe News clip. How, after shooting a German, could Pte Lindsel walk free?

Maybe a member can enlighten us about the story! This reminds me of the 'Dirty Den' incident at Osnabruck.

Sennalager date???

The date at the top gives 1949, although that may be open to question.

As to the Russian Officers? SOXMIS presence? Looking at the flags that are visible, I did not see a Russian one but did see a Danish and Norwegian. Could it possibly be connected with their contribution?

Here is a very similar one:-

I suppose quite soon after the war and we were still an army of occupation it would have been political suicide to allow a British soldier to face the death penalty for killing a German?

Can't believe no one had the grass cut in the second film. I remember having to cut turf from one area to put in another so the Duke of Edinburgh didn't get his shoes dusty.

I have just received this from a reputable source:-

"I believe this was held in the Summer 1949 to mark the creation of the NATO Alliance earlier that year. The Russians were observers, the whole purpose of NATO was to form a united military alliance for the defence of Western Europe against the threat from the Soviet/Communist bloc Easter European Countries led by Soviet Russia.

The first shots are of a Belgian unit (stylized Lions head shoulder flashes) The three British Infantry units on parade (1st Black Watch, 1st Bn Royal Norfolks and 1st Bn Royal WelCh Fusiliers) mentioned in the commentary formed 6 Infantry Brigade, part of 2 Infantry Division and based in the Dusseldorf area. This would also date the parade as Summer 49."

South Staffordshire Regiment was in Elizabeth Barracks. This was probably just before they were sent to the Canal Zone.

Dated 1940 that. Don't think we would be holding parades in Germany during the second world war! Sort it Pathe! Very Happy
