| My name is Ian Dolinski from Australia and my father (Franciszek Dolinski) was in the 314 Transport Group after being a prisoner of war. My father was in the Polish army when war broke out in 1939 and he was taken prisoner of war to Germany. After war he joined the 314 Tpt Group CMLO. as a driver in 1947. Any imformation about this regiment would be much appreciated. Dads papers list a couple of addresses they are the following. Bochum Military 15, Larkhill Barracks, B.A.O.R. 14. Osnabruck, B.A.O.R. 10, My dad was discharged at the following address- -53 Civil mixed depot on the 10th march 1950 for immigration to Australia. He was returned to( RRPC), what does this mean, D.P.A.C.S. Fallingbostel. What was his barracks and barrack ensignia.

| Hello Ian, sorry I can't be of any real help to you. I recognise the places you mention but there have been so many changes and reorganisations over the years. If your talking about transport the place to look is the RASC/RCT. Good luck. http://www.rascrctassociation.co.uk/ | |

| Ian Hope the following may be of some help to your researches
Your father must have been one of the significant number of people who were trapped in Germany at the aftermath of WW2, unable or unwilling to return to their homelands in Eastern Europe following the installation of puppet Communist Governments by the Soviet backed Forces.
A very significant number were Poles, including members of the Polish Armoured and Parachute Divisions who became part of the British Occupation Zone but were disbanded when the Communist Government came to power in Polan in Spring 1947.
The longterm implications of permitting these people to settle permanently in Germany was recognised from the onset and they were always referred to as Displaced Persons (DPs) not refugees With the rapid rundown of British Forces after the War in order that individuals could return to civilian life in the UK there was an urgent need to recruit replacements locally from the DP communities into paramilitary units under British command. These units subsequently became part of the Mixed Services Organisation with individual units recruited from specific nationalities. 617 Tank Transporter Squadron was perhaps the most well known, exclusively and proudly Polish, their members wore a Polish Eagle as a shoulder flash on their blue/black battledress uniforms. 314 Transport Group would have been under Royal Army Service Corps command and would have been part of the backup military Transport and Combat Supply (petrol, oil and rations) System operating thoughout BAOR
I do not know much about Larkhill Barracks Bochum but clearly the first British occupants were probably a Royal Artillery Regiment (Larkhill is one of the major Gunner training establishments in the UK) and it probably was closed in the late 1940s and the cause of your father's move to Osnabruck, for many years one of the largest British Garrisons in BAOR
With the realisation that Poland was likely was likely to remain under Commenist rule for many years there was an active campaign to encourage the Free Poles to consider emigration particularly to the UK, Canada and Australia, your father clearly responded
Dont recognise any of the initials you quote in your final paragraph but our webmaster has strong links with the Fallingbostel area and will doubtless provide details of the organisations you refer to in due course.

| Ian, As far as I can find, D.P.A.C.S. stood for Displaced Persons Assembly Centre Staff. The National Archives holds records relating to this and headings can be found here:- http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/browser.asp?CATLN=3&CATID=13231&GPE=False&DOWN=FALSE&MARKER=10890000&MARKERSCN=Unfortunately, It would mean a visit to find any real details. Apparently, these centres were used to faciltate emigration to various countries for DP's. For example, I have found a reference to 52 DPACS being responsible for emigration to Australia, Chile, and France, but cannot confirm dates, so it may be quite modern. Others though are dated from 1945. As of yet, I have been unable to track down a meaning for CMLO, although I would think that the words Civilian and Organisation come into it. Reference my last - CANCEL!! Civilian Mixed Labour Organisation, redesignated MSO in about 1950/51, along with the CMWS (whatever they may have been!)The only item found about 53 Civil Mixed Depot refers to the Lutheran Church in Latvia? If you feel amenable, why not post a scan of the letters/papers onto your thread. Then they can be looked at with different eyes. Who knows what may turn up. Paul. | |

| There are a few people looking for details of family members who served with the MSO and the organisations that went before it.
I have tried a number of avenues to find details but no joy at the moment. I am waiting for a reply to a message sent to someone connected to Labour units in BAOR.
Here's hoping.
Paul.

Thanks Tony, I just wish I could find a bit more detail for Ian, although the post from rdolinski could be of interest to him. I sent him an email regarding that post. I have been led to believe that there were a few "characters" in the CMWS!! I know hat there was at least one when I came across them in Munster. Paul.

He has contacted me with reservations regarding this post, and I feel that I must agree with the reasons he gave me, due to the fact that many details were exchanged between us in e-mails outside of the Forum. Therefore, I have contacted the author of the above quote directly asking him for details in order to dispel any doubts. They have also been informed that if a satisfactory answer is not received within a set period, their posts will be removed from the Forum. As I also stated in my direct contact, I am sure that they will see the reasons behind this, as will members of the Forum. Paul.

| Hello replying to Ricardo we are not talking about same person as my father Franciszek Dolinski full name was only surviving direct member of his family when he came to Australia in 1950 and the only direct family is myself my four brothers and two sisters. Hope this clears things for you. Dolinski was a popular name as i have found thousands with this name but you need to source info direct from Polish,Ukraine and Russian goverments about your family. I donot want to get into family search in this forum as i believe this forum is set up to discover the HISTORY about the BAOR service and its regiments as what the people who designed this forum to be to PRESERVE history. If you have anything on the 314 transport group it would be much appreciated or any of the other camps or regiments but if not go to a family history site plenty out there. Ian Dolinski | |

| I think that Ian's reply (posted above this one) is an end to this problem. The comments below are my thoughts on this, and only mine.
Whilst it is respected that there are those who wish to find those others, who may be family, friends, or were in the same Regiment/Barracks, who served in BAOR, the post by rdolinski contained none of that, it was purely a CV and a wish to go to Australia. This gentleman has numerous contact addresses, all with similar details.
As Ian stated the surname is a common one in those areas, and he suggested who to contact with regards to this. He also gave the main purpose of the Forum and the main site - to find and preserve the history of BAOR, not a place for family research.
That said, the Forum will not reject or delete, out of hand, posts where a person is looking for somebody, but they will be better in the "Trying to Find" page. The posts from rdolinski will remain for the time being, unless there are objections by any Forum members.
