| Thinking back, we received a 432 as command post vehicle for Bn HQ. I was one of the very very few signals trained bods (Class 2 A trade ASMT leccy drinking course) so myself and the RSI, a Lance Jack where sent on a tracked vehicle course which was great fun - and we could hide in the bugger most days.... ces checks and the likes of course..... | |

- How do you do that? Remember Reg. numbers. I never had a vehicle for long enough to get comfortable in it before some REME bloke would break it and I'd have to get another one. As for knowing the number, I would just try and remember where I parked it and then get the nearest one to that spot.
Mind you in BAOR as an under strength Regt becoming Mechanised Infantry we had more vehicles that you could shake a stick at. Even the cooks had a vehicle on their signature. At one time I had 3, a champ, a 1 ton Austin and a Humber 1 ton armoured (Pig). We spent days just driving around the training areas trying to use up the petrol ration. Treasure hunts and rally's took precedence over digging holes and shooting things What were the circumstances that left your regt so under strength Wrinkles?
From the vehs you mention this would be early sixties, too early for the WFR amalgamation so about the time NS ended, would that have caused it ? It was the early 60's. We were so under strength due to the sudden disappearance of the National Service chaps, who despite having had an extra 6 months tagged on to their two year stint were only very slowly replaced. At one time the regiment numbered less than 200. If I recall the depot (Mercian brigade) commandeered 3 drafts, Made them all Worcestershire Regt and sent them all to us. The Staffs & Cheshires never forgave us for nicking all their recruits.

I'm amazed at the state your regiment was in Wrinkles, that looks like the casualty returns from The Somme (no pun intended). I was around in those days but can't remember our regiment's situation being that dire !

My first veh no. is unforgettable because it was a bloody big Saracen Command Post and I was 20 years old. Some numbers are indelible mate. If I ever forgot my army number, for example, I would never be able to draw money from a cashpoint again !

| I was at 14 sqn (B troop) from 1963 till 1969. Name is Peter Gore (sometimes known as PJ) was a driver, also worked as a clerk in 14 sqn admin. Was a member of the pop group Jonny Preston and the Demons also (later) Fosters mugwumph laundry. Later (68 or 69) was a DJ in the new (as it was then) Waggoners club in the attic of the block. - Tony Miller wrote:

| Steve,
Wouldn't mind one of those 500 Triumph M/C's. Got a 1964 Tiger 90 with a 500 engine in the garageto tinker with. Don't ride much these days - too many hotheads on the road for my liking.
