To hell with what's changed Recce, go back! You know that you want to, so do it...even if it is only for a currywurst & pommes frittes and a decent beer! If you have the chance to go mate, take it.

My wife and I are planning a retirement holiday trip to all the places we were posted. I wonder if that is a good idea sometimes. Well excepting Bicester of course. Smile

Well I hope you have fun Jim. Detmold for one will break your heart. Bad enough in 1992 when we went for a visit and they still had army there. Believe it is all eastern european immigrants now on Hakedahl?

I spent some of the happiest days of my Army service from 1964-69 in Lippstadt. I had revisited the town and the barracks several times during my later service in Germany and not a great deal had changed. The last time that I went back was in 1999, the Bty/Sqn Blocks still remained, I believe they were listed buildings but, the Gun Sheds, MT Parks and POL Points had disappeared and been replaced by houses, it was all quite tastefully done. I stood by the Main Gate, the one that I had stood by in Geatcoat and Pick Helve ready to repel the first wave of the Soviet Shock Troops, when a bus pulled up and four Russian/East European women alighted and made their way to what was 94 Bty Block. I was going to challenge them but thought better of it, they would probably have thought I was barmy! All in all the Barracks have been put to good use and have provided good accommodation for people who were less fortunate than us. Progress!

You get to keep it after three times don't you or is that the world cup? Very Happy

Teabag - I think you are getting confused with "Stickman". Laughing Laughing
