| Was the donkey tied up around the back of the bar.... and did Granny used it as transport or hire it out for something a bit more 'interesting'.... Yuck, Yuck... Double Yuck! Hmm, some parts of my tour in 1966 with the UN at Nicosia Airport are a bit hazy still..... I do remember there was a Finnish detachment of their Squaddies there... and boy were they built like brick outhouses.... We were very polite when they were around boozed up.... had a reputation of being able to drink any other contingent under the table, and some more.... and then show off their prowess of strength by bending pieces of corrugated sheet metal that came off the roof of one the camp khazis.... I think even the detachment of UN Civpol and Military Plod used to leave those geezer alone when peed up... | |

LOL. atb pinky HUSSAR The only bars I recall from the front of the camp, just slightly to the right of the main guardroom towards Belsen gedenkstatte was the Quelle. If you turned left from the guardroom, and on the left, was a cloggies bar. You had range 4 and one or two other bars out the back on the range road. I remember the snakepit, but was always too pissed up to remember where the hell it was. Was always driven there. They used to have porno screen that only played when someone put money in and the music was playing.

| The Zum Weinberg was THE main wateringhole for Rhine army squaddies when in and around Hohne lager in the 1970s and which was located down in Bergen.
A great guestie and disco, even if the weinbergs 'bouncer' reportedly murdered someone while doing his job down there, after I left, I heard.

| IIRC the bouncer was called Helmut. He was a huge bloke. I always found him an OK chap.
I left the area late 1976.
