| Going up to the British Military Tournament on 4 Dec 10 at Earls Court. Hopefully next year it will become the Royal Tournament again. Anyone else going to see it? Used to go every year when I was a kid and always hoped I would take part when I joined the Army. Never did though. Anybody actually taken part in it - what was it like? | |

| Great to see the Royal Tournament making a come back. But what about the Field Gun competition; it won't be the same without it! | |

| Got to disagree with you Phlehmwahn - it was the Lads and Lasses from The Kings Troop that made it for me, but then I would say that! | |

| They've got a school doing the gun run this year. Have seen film of them training. They are taking it very seriously. Hopefully the Navy will do it next year. Still looking forward to it. You're right Shelldrake, the King's Troop are special, but so is everyone taking part. Just love the massed bands as well. | |

| I did a Royal Tournament at Earls Court once, it was great fun, tremendous time. I was on the RAOC Stand, demonstrating Coffer. | |

The Field Gun Competition was great, I thought it had finished for good, though ? OK, like Sheldrake, I'm biased but King's Troop allways do look good. Her Maj likes them too. In Boys, only the creme de la creme got picked for the Kings Troop. I can't get my head round the fact that a little dumpy woman, bouncing along on a horse and squeaking "eyes right" is the Battery Commander. Oh I'm in trouble now !

Thankyou
Shoulder titles in shirt sleeve order????Is this peculiar to the RAOC? |

When I arrived at Deepcut in 87 to start my present job, it was the RAOC Depot, a few of the guys asked me if I was in the Ordnance Corps before I came here. My stock answer was "No, I was in the Army before I came here"!

| Mike can probably answer that one Brum, I never wore shoulder titles except for in No 2's. I probably only wore them about 3 or 4 times in my whole service anyway. | |

| Yes, I remember around '63 being issued with 2 sets of No 2 Dress but as you say we only wore the trousers. When it came to Guard Mounting or Admin Inspections we wore the full set which, because of the lack of maintenance to the jacket, it looked like you were wearing Blazer and Flannels. | |

| Getting back on to the topic. Was lucky enough to make it to Earls Court and see the British Military Tournament last night. What an excellent performance it was too. All of the usual music and horses. Well done to Wellington College who did the gun runs. Youngest 14 oldest 17! Only (!!)700lb of gun but with the same equipment as the Navy used. They were excellent. Sadly our side lost but all of them got a well deserved ovation. Well done to all who participated both in the show and in the demo's outside. The Apache helicopter is awesome - and it was a real one! How the hell they got it in there I don't know. The Army, as usual, did what it does best - being the best. | |
