| Us Aussie tax payers paid for our PM Julia Gillard, Governor General - Quentn Bryce and Ian Thorpe - swimmer, to attend, hope they enjoy the reception, even if no beer is served, as alleged. |

| Nor me, Champagne gives me a terrible hangover. I've had to cut down on it of an evening. | |

| We've been swamped with "Royal coverage" over here leading up to The Big Day. Tons and Tons of recycled Diana documentaries and Talking Head interviews, backgrounders on Kate...but of course since she was just a nice middleclass girl, there wasn't much to background so we tend to see the same material done over and over and over, just "dressed up" differently. Did watch an interesting bit on Harry last night....looking at footage of him when he was 5 you could tell then he had bit of the devil in him!!! Not to engage in stereotypes, but he a typical redhead....bit of a brat! Although in recent years he really has appeared to have smartened up a bit and seems quite okay now....just had to go through a wild period, I suppose -- in front of international media!!!!
Now, my mom was a staunch Royalist/Monarchist. Given as I was born in 1953, Coronation Year, my Nana (mom's mom) gave my mother a coronation cup when I was christened. A few years later mom thought it'd be nice to add cups of George VI since he was King when she was growing up....gosh, so was Edward VIII/Duke of Windsor...oh cripes...so was George V....! That started it and she amassed quite a collection of Coronation Commemorative cups, then branched out into Royal Wedding Commemorative, Royal Birth Commemorative, Jubilee cups, etc. From Victoria's Silver Jube right down to the birth of William and Harry. She had something like 170 pieces and was starting to branch out into Kaiser stuff (he *was* related, after all!!!).
I'm bit pro-Monarchy myself and certainly find the minutae of Royalty interesting....who married who, where they were from, what other European lines have come into the British Royal Family etc. Not as interested in the gossipy crap of the last few years...okay, yeah, a bit!!! LOL....or what they had for breakfast type stuff, but the whole *idea* of monarchy and Royal Family is interesting. | |

All getting a bit much. Broadcast live all late arvo and evening here, with the main event around 9.30pm. ON EVERY BLOODY CHANNEL ! |

| Call me an old cynic (you old cynic), but does history not have a habit of repeating itself? I have great respect for HM the Queen and Prince Phillip (he doesn't take it too seriously, Les) but, in my opinion, when the aforementioned leave for Valhalla that should be the end of it. The next several in line don't have the dedication, gravitas and most importantly the credibility to carry on from where she left off.

| I agree. As far as I am concerned, the younger members of the 'firm' have brought the Royal Family into disrepute. No gravitas, whatever. In particular, Prince Andrew, mixing with low-life. How can they expect respect from the public? | |

| I wish them a long and contented marriage. But the precedents in the form of Will`s parents, his Uncle Andrew, his Aunt Anne and his Great Aunt Margaret do not auger well. | |
