Subject: ROYAL LOGISTIC CORPS, WHO ARE THEY? 10/5/2011, 06:26
G'day fellas. As you would know by now I left UK end of 1966, post AAS Chepstow. In those days there were amongst others, RASC, RAOC. Now, did those two Corps later form Royal Logistic Corps? I know RASC became Royal Corps of Transport down the track.
What other Corps were included in the Royal Logistic Corps?
I know RE still exist, but what about REME ?

The RLC i have never been treated so badly by a corps than i have with these fellas. You always have some RLC LE office or TA RLC officer walking round camp wether that be in Bosnia, Iraq, camp Bastion. Whinging a lads about there sideburns or there I Id card is ment to be on display. They proper do my head in.
Bosnia walking round Banja Luka i hear this shout '' Wheres your ID card'' i had it in my hand so i walked over to him with my arm held out parallel to the ground. '' why isnt it on display'' ''are you going to pay for the id card holder'' ''Anyway im in combats, with a rifle a pistol, im on the 15 mins EOD team so every one knows me as we do all the mine awarness briefs when you get to thearter. One of which you attened, I never see you hassel the Dutch, Yank, Italians, Norwigians, Hugarains, Romanians, Canadians, Germans ''
No doubt to say I was tapping the boards the next morning, to be asked what happened. I explained, only for the DET Comd to say, '' ahh eff him, hes only RLC TA''
From that moment on I have had nothing but good things to say about the RLC NOT lol.

But there are one set lads i will never slag off in the RLC and you might be suprised and thats the chefs, ive been in the middle of nowhere in the desert and they have graffed the nackers off to smash out some arwsome scoff. Like the other day I was on STANTA came in late to camp we were ment to be on rat packs '' I knew you boys were coming in and i didnt want to bin the left overs so i saved them for you'' That was some mega moral on a plate and i will be always greatful to those lads.

It seems very similar to the change from RASC to RCT I do know at that time there were parts taken from others such as RE and RAOC just seems like when the RLC was formed they just went the whole hog

Hi you old swets/ I was in the R A S C when it became R C T and later R L C. What a blunder RASC-RCT-Are transportation corps and nothing else. The RASC had an enormous amount of specialised arms. Water.Para,s,air despatch, etc. what they wanted to get mixed up with the other arms, I dont know. Bob Morris RASC

Well I started when it first became RCT and they had lots of bits and pieces taken from others, including Movements, I think it was basically the start of all coming under one Cap Badge

Second thoughts Brum can't be as old as thought, I typed out some diaries written by one of my ancestors 1795-1806 and in that he talks about soldiers marching down from the north to take their place in the Castle at Dover, they had waggon loads of stuff with them but I'm pretty sure he is not mentioned.

Don't know about bows and arrows but the excitement of the time was that they were actually installing cannon on, wait for it, turntables. this apparently being an innovation
