| Hope we find out soon JPW. I am doing a small article for an ex Serviceman's Organisation (Fellowship of the Services) newsletter that I edit. I will be printing the newsletter over the weekend ready for the August Mess meeting next Tuesday,so had hoped for a quick reply. Nt to worry, I can always hold it over for the September edition. | |

| I'm pretty sure you could use them anywhere in Germany.
In the 70s we were camping in northern Italy and the weather was vile. I remember saying to my wife, "If we're going to get rained on, we might as well get rained on in Bavaria, at least we can use our petrol coupons there".
(They could only be used in designated filling stations, BP for a while, then it would be Aral).

| They couldn't be used outside BAOR. If a military vehicle was used for Adventure Training/Exercising outside BAOR then they had to use Official Duty Coupons, obtained from HQ BAOR. From around the early 80s BP Coupons could be used at Shell outlets. | |

| Back in the 50s and up to 1965 they were only valid in Germany. On one occasion I was running low coming off the ferry in Ostend. Made it to Germany just in the nick. ('E' on the gauge means "enough".)
As I recall we had BP for the most part, but Aral and Gasolin both snuck in at the odd time. Don't remember Shell coupons ever being issued.

| I cannot be sure, but wasn't there a BP filling station somewhere near Ghent or Wankum on the way to Ostende ,which accepted petrol coupons? Or was this the place where the jerry cans were thrown into the bush after topping up with 'procured' petrol. |

| I seem to remember that there were Shell ones valid for Holland. Never used any there, but like Recce I remember coming of the fairy at Ostend and just getting into Germany to gas up.
Any body remember gas less Sundays after the 73 Israel/Arab war?

| It was BP couplons in the 70's. i remeber having to take a scammel down to someplace in belgium to swap it for an AEC. we stopped at wankum to fill it up, took over 200 liters, and we traded in a few "left over" coupons for sunglasses each. | |

| BP were the main providers, Aral had the contract for a short spell in the late 60s. You could also use the coupons at Esso stations on the Autobahn. | |

| Hi KJH, Here is a photo of my BFG card from the 1960's which gives the details of driver, car etc. I have been working out the price of the coupons which were in 10 litre denominations. I seem to remember that a gallon of petrol from the BP outlets was equivalent to about 1 shilling & sixpence. At DM11.5 to the £Sterling THEN, that works out to about roughly DM2 for a 10 litre coupon. Anyway, here is my old card for the record :- Jimsigs1 | |

| Thanks Jimsigs 1. In that case the 800 mile journey must have cost around £1.50 (£1/10s). That's with jerry cans in the boot of course. Oh happy days! Keith | |
