Jimsigs many thanks this brought back fantastic memories of my first BFG car SS 28 B a 1950s Opel Olympia Rekord P1 bought very used in 1967 and it made it from Verden-Aller to Taunton Somerset but the clutch failed...no parts available in UK and made clips with coppar wire fixed it and got back to Verden-Aller and one of my fellow ED mates wrote it off against the cookhouse wall of Shiel Barracks... Best regards Steve

Hi Steve,
Ah! the old Opel Olympia. That also brings back memories when I was at 7 Signals 1963-6 where there were quite a few dotted around. You either bought an old local car or timed it right and bought a new one. We had a WO2 Foreman who bought a Citroen DS and picked it up in Paris. Another guy next door to me had one of those little Simca 1000's. Don't suppose you were at 7 Sigs in your time.

Until the late '70s the RA was the biggest regiment in the army.
After a few cuts the distinction fell to the REME.

Talking about PETROL, the price here is around AU$1.40 per litre. That is about 90p?
What about in UK.

Don't you get a 'brollie' with the moped. Maybe a VW golf with a sun roof from Thrifty - Southampton?
I noted last time in the UK many motors have sun roofs, not in OZ, one could get sun stroke.

Update no more fuel coupons - BFG Registered vehicle owners get an ARAL Fuel card and using that card the registered owner gets his fuel at an Aral Fuel point and is charged a price withoiut fuel duty. Who will accept an ARAL* Card: (ARAL is a member of the BP Group!)
Fuel pumps on camp are also digitised /computerised and automatically demand replen - and fuel issues are recorded against the MoD Veh Regn.
*The American advance in to Germany (1945) was so rapid, the frequently raided ARAL petrol stations to grab more maps to identify where they had been for the After Action Reports.
