Best Heavy armour posting in BAOR?

Subject: Best Heavy armour posting in BAOR? 10/9/2011, 19:12

Herford & Wolfenbuttell both CVR/T locations were generally regarded as the best RAC postings for regiments in Germany. With the possibility of Fallingbostal or Munster as our next posting, 1 RTR were delighted to go to Hildesheim, A large town, just 2 UK Regiments, a station not a garrison. We certainly thought we had fallen on our feet, the best Tank posting in BAOR? we certainly thought so.

ok must agree there, however, with the exception of Berlin........... (which was not part of BAOR)

Oops !!!Heavy Armour??? Unless they have added an awful lot of ballast CVR(T) were, and still are, light armour. Berlin had hvy armour.

In the early days post May 45 the 7 Armd Div command 21 Army Group from Aug 45 known as BAOR was in charge of British Troops in Berlin...later 5 Gds Bde of the Guards Division...watch this space JPW and myself have been busy

Hallo all stations, this is Smartarse Minor.

I declare this photo to be a fake.

1) That is a Chiefy but there is no signature white smoke pouring from the rear decks.

2) There are alien waggons parked in the background.

Having looked at the countryside in the far distance, I declare that the picture was taken at Lulworth.

Mine was a lucky guess based on Bovington being the Armour center of the British Army,Lulworth would of been my second guess followed by Catterick.

Stillbrew Chieftain looking damn good IMO......I did 8 yrs on that beast.

I was at 5 Ord Bn Barker Bks 86-89 and have some great memories of the place, Paderborn was the best posting I had in Germany.
