| I loved the way we used to patrol with a pickaxe handle, "if you have to use it, hit them across the shoulders" these days I don't think it would have got us far Les | |

| while wasting time at the hook of holland transit camp, some of us decided to walk along the beach , not realising we were wearing our best boots, going back into the camp we were suddenly confronted by two little red monkeys and told to report on c o s orders at 9 next morning for having dirty boots , they were not dirty just the polish was scraped off by the sand and shingle, that afternoon we were told to catch the 7 am train to germany next morning , i often wondered what happened to the little red monkeys looking for us to go in front of the c o , must have been little red faced monkeys , ginger | |

| Perfect picture showing the benefits of the stiffer leather sole, not as much of a problem with creasing behind the toecap, unlike the softer rubber sole on the DMS Les | |

Les We put new boots into a bath of hot water for a few hours to soften them up then packed them with newspaper and left them in the drying room overnight to dry. Then it was as Les described, candle, spoon, Kiwi, duster and water, not spit. | |

| Yes and of course that was DMS Boots, don't think it would have been the same for the Ammo type boot because of the thick leather sole, polishing of the sole and studs was also eliminated on DMS (just used to polish the arch)

| When I was with the QOH no one seemed to wear issue boots when deployed on Ex. The fashion seemed to be for anything other than boots DMS, a certain Regt Int WO used to wear highly polished riding boots and breeches, this was probably due to RHQ always managing to avoid the mud on SLA Trg Area when selecting locations.
