| Not being in the know with regards to vehicles can anyone tell me what the Field Ambulance vehicle is. In all my times in Field Ambulances I don't remember one of them! | |

| That's as maybe but we didn't have any of those during the 'Cold War'. Land Rovers, 4 tonners and 432's. That was it largely. | |

| I agree that FV 432 were the norm in BAOR in the early 80's at least. I think the FV104 Samaritan was only issued in limited numbers to FV104 Scorpion equiped units? same goes for FV105 Sultan command post vehicle & FV106 Samson armoured recovery vehicles
Poster shows soldiers with 5.56mm L85's (SA80) which dates in from 1986 onwards? _________________ Sua Tela Tonanti

| I wondered about that gun but as it was out of my era I declined to comment. Guns like that would be buggered in the event of a NBC attack, would they not ? | |

Is it Neuschwanstein ? Haven't got any refs to hand but I don't think it is...... Nor is it anything on the Rhine I can remember.... Probably it's Disneyland where they go for R & R

| Heres something else to ponder................ At the end of WW2 there was a rush by the Allies to examine the secret experiments of the Third Reich. A lot of the activity was centred on Peenemunde where, amongst other things, the V1 Flying Bomb & the V2 ballistic rocket were developed. The Waffen Institut (Nord Deutschland) Uberblick- Peenemunde (WINDUP) were records kept in the complex and some concerned activities which stretched back to WW1. UK & US inspection teams were surprised to find data relating to advanced aircraft designs prepared in 1917. Inevitably future work on these was curtailed by the terms of the Armistice and many of any detailed, preliminary engineering drawings were destroyed during WW2, or since, by neglect & the ravages of time. What does remain, are the two artist's impressions shown here which are tributes to German ingenuity & advance thinking. One illustration shows a rocket armed ground attack aircraft which would have supplemented the armoured Junkers J1 already in production & flying in an army co-operation role. The other sketch is of a proposal for a jet powered fighter. Both projects make use of existing components. The GA proposal is based around the fuselage of the Fokker Dr.1 Triplane, on to which a delta wing is mounted to carry pods of rockets for use against observation balloons. or in an anti-tank & anti-personnel role. A similar delta wing is proposed for the fighter, in this case, one mounted on the fuselage of an Albatross D.V. The two jet engines are of simple,aero-thermo-dynamic duct (athodyd) form with few moving parts. As it is necessary for the machine to have forward motion before the athodyd jets can function, the Mercedes in-line engine of the original design is retained. As pulse jets, the design was resurrected as a power source for the V1 flying bomb. ( drgs by Cartav )

Probably it's Disneyland where they go for R & R Definitely Schloss Neuschwanstein David, I think a bit of "Artistic Licence" has been employed in the reproduction. As Brum indicates, what relevance to BAOR?

definitely Schloss Neuschwanstein David, I think a bit of "Artistic Licence" has been employed in the reproduction. As Brum indicates, what relevance to BAOR? Nay lads ! Got it ! It's Schloss Heidelburg on the Neckar............. look it up on Google' There's a bloody great barrel inside you could float the Royal Yacht in. And if you buy a glass on vino you can keep the glass. All of which proves nowt....but if I could find the pic of me on the bridge I'd post it !
