Burials following death in service from 1948 no longer are included as CWG.

Does anyone know which cemetery was used in Hamburg in 1948? I suspect it maybe at the same location as the CWG!

Thanks
Alan

Alan

We had a similar query in the early days of the site

I am almost certain your thinking is correct

Thanks, I have also posted a PM to our man in Cuxhaven!

Apparently, Hamburg Ohldorf park cemetery is the biggest in the world!

I now have the grave location as noted in 1948. Looking at the diagram of the layout, I would say it will be difficult to pin point an old grave location. I hope they have not resorted things!

Another thing I have to take into consideration are the German graveyard rules. Whereby, after 25 years, a grave site is opened up and the site reused, that is if no one is willing to pay the yearly fees. If the grave, despite the 25 years rule is a military grave, I suspect it will not be disturbed, as are Jewish graves.

Thanks...

The Canadian cemetary in Werl came up for renewal a few years ago. Not being war time cemetary for Canadians it could have been turned over. But all is well it was renewed for 25 years with another option for 25 more years I understand. It was also spruced up and head stones replaced, a very good job done on it. I was there in 2003 when they were finishing.

I am now aware of the location of the grave in Hamburg. Thanks to those who forwarded information.
