| Odd question I know, I lived in Munster 1966 - 1969, (I was 10 when we left), my Dad was an accountant for Naafi and we lived in officers quarters - I cannot even remember the regiment we were attached to sorry. Went to school in a barracks. I'm trying to locate where we lived on Google Earth but the town does not look familar and I do not remember our street name.
Sorry chaps - long shot.

A possible option (I was stationed in Munster at roughly the same time)
The main families NAAFI in Munster was in York Barracks in the Albersloh area to the east of the city. There was a large officers patch alongside the barracks and there was a BFES Primary School (York School) in the nearby Loddenheide military complex (My future wife taught there for a time).
To find the locations mentioned take the L586 Alberslohweg east out of Munster.
The Loddenheide complex was one of the first barracks to be closed after 1993 and the site is being redeveloped but is readily recognisable being roughly opposite the huge gasometer in the area of what is now Egbert Snoek Weg, Willy Brandt Weg, An der Loddenheidebusch.
Continue along the L586 under the railway bridge and York Barracks is/was on the south side of the road. The NAAFI and large SKC Cinema was/is in the top right hand corner of the barracks.
The OMQ s were built along Wieandweg, Kelten Weg and Angelsachsen Weg alongside the barracks
Hope this is helpful (other option might be the Oxford Barracks area to the west of the city but I not familiar with that area of Munster.)

Notice you are back in Camberley
Have you been ejected from Kyrenia following the Russian takeover of Cyprus (the Business Section of today's Daily Telegraph makes an interesting read), officially there are now 50,000 Russians more likely 100,000 living on the island which is seen as the place where a quick buck can be made. The Chinese too have realised with easy regulations on the grant of Permanent Resident and therefore travel to other EU countries this is the quick way to the rest of Europe

| JPW, not ejected per se but our 90 day Visa was about to expire, so it was time to leave. We could have left the Country for a few days before re-entering for another 90 days, but sometimes, when they think that you are trying to beat the system, the authorities only give you a Visa for a few days. Another way to remain in Northern Cyprus would be to apply for Temporary Residency which, if granted, has to be renewed every year. As you can imagine this costs money - two periods of 90 days is enough for our needs. There are plenty of Russians in the South, the present Government is Communist and welcome them with open arms (they have recently negotiated a low interest loan of several billion euros). I haven't noticed many Chinese in the North but plenty of prospective house purchasers from Iran, Egypt, Syria and Turkey. The are of course plenty of Filipino ladies in and around South Nicosia!! | |

According to the DT article there are even more ladies of easy virtue of Russian origin to be found in Limmasol.
You may wish to call for volunteers to form a fighting patrol to go an investigate the next time you are in Kyrenia

"Kelten Weg", Ja "Angelsachsen Weg", Ja, Ja, good Teutonic tribes. "Wieand", is that part of the set ? (I can't figure that one out).

| Ha Ha great thread. I was lost and now I am found - thanks JPW. It was one of those Taxi, where to, home, where's home, near a Spar, there are 20 Spars in Munster . . . Once I found Oxford Barracks and Billerbeck I was ok, we lived in Gronauweg - bit different now of course. I met an English speaking Munster family in the uk a little whle ago and they were desperate to know where I had lived because when they were kids they had played with some English army kids near a camp and one of the army dads had taken them for a ride in an armoured vehicle (Pvt Jimmy Saville, no I jest). I will take a bit more notice in my next life.
Keep up the banter - love it!

| We lived in No1 Wiegandweg (Officers Quaters) from 1986 to 1988. Just over the wall from York Barracks and just up the road from the main NAAFI | |
