| In 1952/54 there was a RN/RM unit unit from Krefeld playing in the area small units football league. I'm not sure if it was HMS Royal Prince or the Rhine flotilla or a combination of both. I DO know that they always gave us a slap-up meal after the matches !! | |

Had a look for Muehlenbach Krefeld on Google Earth but could not spot it or a swing bridge close to the River Rhine
Could you check with your friend exactly where HMS Royal Rupert was please? (The Dock area in Krefeld appears to have been rebuilt in recent years) | |

The swingbridge is part of Hafen Strasse still there today the road to the west of the river is Dusseldorfer Strasse from an early 1950s map Linner Muehlenbach not marked but a waterway just south of the map  | |

| Went to their 'closing down' function in about late 1958 ish. Some of the RASC could not understand why their Barracks was a 'Ship'. I had met an RM cpl. who would wait for the Ditty boat at 16.00 so that he could go for 'a run ashore'. This was in Tel el Kebir Egypt miles from any any water!!!!!! Oh! The Sweet Water Canal wasn't too far away! | |
