A 1950's BAOR Christmas Carol
Sergeant Wenceslas
Sergeant Wenceslas looked out on the feast of Stephen
as the Guard stood all about blancoed, crisp an even,
loudly swore the sarg that night like a London coster
when he found a rookie was missing from his roster.
Hither Corp come stand by me if thou knowest telling
this ‘ere rookie who is he, where the hell’s his dwelling.
Sarge he lives close by the gate and his name is Taffy
he’ll be stuffing tea and wads in the nearest NAAFI.
If that’s so fall in two men and we’ll go and find him
and when we have nabbed him on a fizzer stick him,
Sergeant, Corporal forth they went tho’ the night was lousy
found the rookie all intent in a game of housey.
In the Sergeants steps they trod with two men as flankers
trembled at the CO’s wroth and got 10 days jankers.
So you rookies all beware when your down for duty
be there on the stroke of time or you’ll catch it like this beauty.
