I'm a retired USAF Master Sergeant (NATO Code OR-7; RAF equivalent: Flight Sergeant) and served in USAF Tactical Air Control Parties (TACP) supporting US Army units. From September 1979 to September 1983, I was stationed up at Lucius D. Clay Kaserne, between Bremen & Bremerhaven supporting the US Army's 2nd Armored Division (Forward) (in reality the 3rd Brigade of the 2nd AD).
As part of our duties we were to provide TACP support for the combined unit of US, UK, & FR companies to enforce ground access to West Berlin via the Helmstedt autobahn between the Inter-German Border and Berlin. The United States provided a tank company, and IIRC, BAOR provided an infantry company while France provided a self-propelled artillery company/battery. In addition, the RAF provided a Squadron Leader and his TACP, and France also provided a TACP. Annual exercises named "Treaty" for this took place on and around Sennelager Training Area.
I was involved with Exercises "Treaty 80", "Treaty 81", and "Treaty 82" and am trying to determine the actual dates of each of these. I recall that "Treaty 80" took place in October 1980 while the other two were in September of their respective years. If anyone here can help with the actual exercise dates for these three years, I would appreciate it.
Oh, the RAF Air Liaison Officer/Forward Air Controller I remember from these exercises was Squadron Leader Deakins.
