Hi everyone
I'm not connected to the BAOR in any way, but I am wondering if anyone can shed any light on a vintage postcard for me? Unfortunately the link telling me how to attach an image is not working for me so I'll type out what it says. It was sent from Frome in Somerset on what I think is 27 November 1951, from what I'm guessing is a lad on National Service, and I think he's with his family - he was about 19 at this time if I have the right man. I've done some research and I think he may be R Scudamore, from Frome. The address on the card is SPR Hislop (who I think might be Howard Hislop from Birkenhead, who was a policeman and a few years older), RHQ, 37 A.E.R, BAOR 10 (which I know to be Osnabruck).
The card says:
"Dear Howie and Room 5
Just a few lines, am having quite a good holiday. Have just got up, it's three o'clock in the afternoon, got in fairly late this morning. Nearly got blew up last week was in Bristol when a factory blew up, some damage! .
Take a look at the picture on the front the only place left where a pennies worth 2D - Scuddy."
The postcard is a view of Cheap Street in Frome, and my guess is that the one penny/two penny joke is a local one.
If anyone can suggest a way of finding out if I have the right two men, I would much appreciate it, or indeed any other insights would be welcome. "Scuddy" sounds quite a lad!
Thank you
Sarah
