Just had five minutes of it. Great. I shall be returning to that one!

This is super Shelldrake. Takes me back to the 60's. I do miss Germany. It's a shame that so much has changed and not for the best in my estimation.

Thanks Shelldrake, I am still in the same “neck of woods” as per 52 years ago, enjoying Bremen Eins with great music but will add your link.
Hardrations, Germany has changed dramatically, I returned to Iserlohn for the third time in 2002, finding the town was nothing like it was in the 70s/80s, however have now found a quiet corner “up north” to spend the rest of my days.

Good to see you found your spot Steve. I envy your choice. My self I'd jump at the chance to live there if possible. But my good German Frau would miss her grand kiddies. Cannot argue with that fact of life. She does want one more trip back to the old village if possible and for us to check up on Larry (Cdn) in Deilinghofen.

I was back in my "Spiritual Home" of Lippstadt for a long weekend last July, not a great deal of change apart from the level crossing on the main road into town, the road now goes under the railway lines which I suppose, with the great increase in car ownership, makes a lot of sense. Next week we are off to Bavaria (Fussen, Berchtesgaden and Bad Toelz) followed by a few days in Austria, hope the weather is kind to us.

Looking back here at my last posting. I see I mentioned my mate from my days in Deilinghofen. Well unfortunately Larry passed away a month ago. I believe he was the last Canadian soldier still in the village. He's very much missed by my wife and I. Sadly this has put a crimp in our plans for a visit back .He was a good man and much loved his living in Germany.

My condolences, the end of an era
Perhaps it might be appropriate to pay tribute to you and the other Canadian based contributors, who, over the past decade, have taken the time and effort to record their memories and experiences of the very significant and much appreciated contribution the Canadian Brigade made to all aspects of the BAOR way of life
It was a tragedy when the emasculated Brigade left for Lahr, for mainly political reasons
This site would be much the poorer without these interesting, thoughtful and often amusing contributions.

Nice of you to say so. Personally speaking, the pleasure was all mine. All we BAOR veterans have now is our memories. It's great to have this website to help us keep those halcyon days alive. Not only that, but it's interesting to hear on rare occasion from our former rivals on the other side of the inter-German border telling us of their experiences.
And don't get me started on our brigade's removal from BAOR that was another stupid anti-military decision by the "King of the Hippies", Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau.

Totally agree Recce. So much was ruined by that fool, King Pierre.
But as they say, " 1 out of 4 of the leaders of the political parties in Canada are just as stupid as the other 3".
