For no particular reason, I thought the Sergeant (on our right of EME) might be "Fred" Obrastsoff-Rutinsky, who was a WO1 at 12 Armd Wksp up the road in Mercer, 82-85.
But a web search reveals he was with the RAC Parachute Squadron in NI in 1972. As I could have known, because I replied to this picture some years ago.

Hi Alan, I was then Cfn Toddington Metal Smith. 1st posting out of Borden. Finished at 1BR Corps Troop Wksp in Bielefeld in 96. I seem to remember a Sgt Yates REME. Cpl Ron Gibbs was the Msmith at Quebec and took me under his wing.

I don't think that's me. I think it may be 'Smiler' Moore. I remember him and Jimmy Baird very well. I arrived mid Sept '76 and seem to recall every one was involved in Spearpoint 76?. ASM Davies ran the show along with Ssgt Jimmy Gardener, Ssgt Pete Shepherd And Ssgt Eric Power Other unforgettable were Tex Slaughter. Mick Coady,Doc Hulmstone, Olly Harris, Bob Mitchell. Tom Scot, SAS Hindle, and apologies to all not named.

Is that different to Munster? I went on my class1 back at Bordon in 79 and got posted from 3RRF in Fally to 15fd wksp in Munster .

The name Münster,can be mistaken for a posting to Munster. (Note the 2 dots above the letter U.)
I was at Royal Anglians at Münster first. THEN posted across town to 15 Fd wksp Münster across town.
There is another Munster without the dots at Munster Lager, which is near Fally.
Many a Squadies got on the wrong train in Germany. They are miles away from each other!

I was at Buller bks with 15fd. Did my 2nd tour of Ireland with them in Derry in 80. Good set of lads but completely different from being attached to other units. REME officers thinking they are soldiers is a very dangerous cocktail.

Gareth Toddington. Alan Ravenscrofttook us up to Ballykelly but the main body were based at Sydenam. Phil Hatton was my boss in Munster and our platoon commanders were captain Crittenden and lieutenant Scarlet.
