My twins were born at Rinteln in 1976. We went back for a holiday in Germany in 92 and visited. Heavy duty security thanks to our friends from the emerald isle. I asked if I could photograph the twins in front of the sign but was refused. Fair enough but I don't think it would have done any harm.

Spent time there as a patient in '64.
My home town of Kendal is twinned with Rinteln and I am a committee member of the Kendal - Rinteln Association.(google it!)
When Chairman, I placed an ad in the local paper which traced 11 'Rinteln brats 'in our area. One of whom was one of the last to be born there before it closed down.
We have close associations with the town with many exchanges over our 15 years of twining, and I will be taking Kendal Concert Band there for the third time this year to play at the Altstadtfest in August. Anybody still there, come and say 'Hello'

Jim,

Lived in the Kendal area for a time in my younger days, before joining the REME. Mum and Dad ran a shop for a time in the Hallgarth Estate (Hallgarth Circle), and lived later in Low Garth.

Have fond memories of the Dun Horse (Keith Butcher ran it at the time) and other pubs in the area.

Paul.

The BmH is now a civvie rehabilitaion unit for vunerable adults. They have visited Kendal as a group recerntly and we have had a reciprocal visit from a similar organisation here, organised by our respective town twinning groups.
The place is now accessible, if you go again any ex'Rnteln brat' will be made most welcome

Rinteln was a great BMH,one of mine was born there and my daughter had an eye operation there,in my opinion BMHs were better than civvie hospitals. The Doktorsee, nearby,is one of my favourite fishing spots.Lots of Brits camp there too.

I was absolutely staggered when I read this! My daughter was born on exactly the same day and year! My husband was based in Sennelager at the time. I remember the staff at BMH Rinteln treating us with the utmost respect.

I had my wisdom teeth out in 1993 - hated that however they did a good job of me when I fell down two flights of stairs lugging batteries to a makeshift storehouse in 1991 - I didn't let go of them, they were starred items!

Hi Hussar & Guest,

Coincedence - I was attached to QOH (then known as 7th QOH) 1957-9 at Tidworth, as the Sgt in charge of the wireless troop. Probably before your time but a damn good Regiment.
Also had a son born in BMH Rinteln 1963, an excellent hospital.

I was posted to 29 Field Ambulance in Obernkirchen, though I lived in Rinteln and would visit the sergeant’s mess there. Another RAMC friend of mine lives five minutes walk from the BMH. He married a local girl.
