| Oh THAT posting ... I had omitted to list the 5th Cohort of the 10th Legion, didn't realize you were also there. Not many left of the Old Comrades Association now.

| A close shave Len, being in the 5th Cohort. Got out just in time before Michael Varus the senior Praetor led them to disaster in Alaska, losing the standard and gold. A lot of good men were lost including a mate of mine jarnas. | |

| Great to find this forum. I was born in BMH Rinteln on 30 June 1950. My father worked for the War Office and was sent to Germany to audit NAAFI accounts (I think). We lived in Bad Oeynhausen. I came to the UK when I was 3 so have no memories of Germany. I'd love to trace anyone who knew either of my parents, Jim and Joyce Edwards. I'd also like to trace my hospital birth record - can anyone suggest how to do this? Many thanks. | |

| Hi Shelldrake, many thanks. I have a birth certificate (somewhere) but would like to see the original hospital record including my time of birth. I should have visited the hospital before it closed! | |

| This site really brings back the memories.
My first son was born in Rinteln in July 74, my second son was also born in Rinteln in November 75 and my daughter was also born in Rinteln on 1st January 1979. All have white Consular Birth Certificates.
My daughters birth was very special because I was stationed in Bielefeld at the time and on News Years Eve there was a white out in process but HQ Bielefeld didn't notify the medical centres. My wife went into labour at 00.30 on New Years morning and I drove to Rinteln in a blizzard when I should have gone to the local German hospital. I arrived at 4.30 in the morning and my daughter was born at 13.30. It is my understanding that my daughter was the only baby born on New Years day in 1979 in a British Military Hospital in Germany. She still has the silver spoon of Hildesheim, the silver teddy bear and card given to her by the maternity staff at the hospital.
In conclusion, on each occasion, I had been posted back to the UK but had returned to Germany whilst my wife was pregnant so the births in Rinteln were by pure chance. However, they were all born in the same maternity suite/room. That I think could be quite unique. How time flies. My children are now 43, 42 and 39 respectively.

| My son was born at BMH Rinteln in the early hours of July 31st 1976. I was at 20 Field Workshop Electronic REME Minden at the time and lived on Wettinerallee. It was a bit of a trek over the hill to Rinteln in the back of a MOD ambulance.
He eventually appeared at 7.30am.
