I've just registered, and may upload some photographs - in due course.

I served at Scharfoldendorf from October 1958 through to August 1959. I remember Spring & Summer 1959 being very warm, both in Germany and in the UK after I was demobbed.

Some sad news to report.
 
I recently visited the National Archives at Kew, and sought their help on getting a sight of the Official Records of 646 Signals Unit, which was based at RAF Obenkirchen and RAF Scharfoldendorf.  I served in 646SU from August 1958 to August 1959.  Unfortunately there's a note to say that the records are not available having been destroyed due to asbestos contamination, and having been damaged by water, it was impossible to scan them. The note was dated 2009, and certainly there was very serious flooding around the Tewkesbury area in 2007, and I wonder whether the records might have been stored at RAF Innsworth - where I was demobbed, which isn't that far from Tewkesbury, and which does appear to have been where other records were stored.

The official database response was:
"Air Ministry & MoD: Operating Record Books, Miscellaneous Units.  Destroyed prior to transfer due to asbestos contamination, March 2009.  Severe water damage made scanning impossible "
