| Jim, go to Kit and Equipment and you will see the unit we had at 20 Armoured Brigade, 6 Armoured Div in 1952 when we were in Gremmendorf Kaserne (York Barracks), Munster.

| Hi Jim and Len The link and Len's beast are the WW2 built versions...I do have a late 60s memory of a similar armoured command vehicle on trial at 1 Div HQ Verden-Aller my mate Jim Moore drove it sure it was a more up to date version the with small slits for the driver to see out of so very difficult to drive...have been searching the internet for a photo because recall seeing one several years ago but cannot find it now...will be making enquires at a reunion next weekend Cheers Steve

| Wartime, 'AEC Dorchester' Armoured Command Vehicle, A.E.C. 4 x 4 - Based on the AEC Matador FV11061 Armoured Command Vehicle, A.E.C. 6 x 6 - 150 Built between 1943-44 and still in service in BAOR till the late 1960's These vehicles had a more roomy working compartment, equipped with radio sets, typewriters and map tables, while the earlier 4x4 was more of a 'radio shack' Replaced by a mix of FV1611 Armoured Command Vehicle, Humber 4x4 or the FV604 Armoured Command Post 6x6 with a distinctive higher roof, (The APC version was FV603) and later again by the FV432 Command Vehicle Variant In the RAOC we were issued Bedford QL Office Boxes well into the 70's being replaced by RL's, then Office Trailers after that, or in some units just tentage _________________ Sua Tela Tonanti

| Gosh, just the thing for puttering around on a Saturday, going down to the mall/market, taking the family for a Sunday drive "off road". Would certainly solve being stuck in some #$@!!&*# traffic jam....just barrel on ahead and roll over the freakin' cars in front of you!
Does it come with air conditioning? :-)

| Radio delay vehicle. Would have bid but the postage would probably be a bit steep. Bit of fun for someone if they could afford to run it in Oz's wide open spaces. | |

| It is surprising to find out what is lurking out here . I know there are at least two Chieftans, a heap of Centurions, but only about 6 are going, a whole "parcel" of Ferrets and Landrovers. A sabre, and one or two Saracens. | |

| I stand corrected old boy. Imagine buying that and taking it out for a drive. Could you get done for being carried by an offensive weapon?
Wonder how many people would say "Ooh look a tank?"

| wow! that pic takes me back, Humber 1 ton, 'up armoured' to weigh about 6, ( if my memory serves me right). lethal on corners, they did tend to roll a bit. Also, the brakes were a bit dubious as well, so use the gearbox to help you slow down. | |

| Ah! yes, that's a proper PIG if you discount the christmas light on top. A good few hundred miles done aboard one of those. Very good across country but on the road you had to keep your wits about you as they wandered from left to right alarmingly. Take your eyes off the road and it would take you off road. Believe me when they do take to the ditch, upside down, they burn exceedingly well. Which could be due to the 2 very large fuel tanks which under those circumstances. empty themselves into the interior. I know I was that soldier. | |
