i dont wish to come accross as some kind of racist,or even offend some minority groups, but is today the day we take gt.britain back from some sections of europeans, you know the ones i mean, the one that tried twice wearing uniforms, the ones that capitulated when the first shots were fired.some of you older forum members may even have first hand memories,i only have the stories my three uncles told me, [plus a few first hand accounts from old soldiers im regt when i first joined.] and then to top it all as well as the politicans giving all our money to europe, they are pinching whats left. [sorry for going on a bit]

I lived through WW2 and suffered more than most.I now live in Europe, where the major powers have lived together in peace and harmony, and war amoung us is now unthinkable and impossible. So belonging to Europe at least our kids, and grandkids won't have to take part in those terible type WWI and 2 wars.Oh I know the EU is not perfect, but can you tell where things are perfect? And do you know which country contributes per head most to the EU - well its litle Denmark. And the biggest netto payer is of course Germany, they are the keenest Europeans for they never wish their country to be in a position again to wreck such havoc in the world.I saw the ghost cities of Germany after the war,and I understand their view.I also saw the starving kids begging for a crust, and saw them scramble to pick up cigarette ends thrown on the ground by our soldiers.War is a terrible and stupid thing, and if a united Europe only prevents these it will,in my view, have been justified. We now have the strongest currency in the world, are enjoying the wrongs of crooked bankers like everyone else, but things on the horizen are looking brighter.I live in Europe, consider myself a good European, but remain staunchly British, something non-one can take from me.But its no use being in Europe unless you are a full partner, and not interested in just grabbing what you can for yourself.
Just the way I see things.

you say you lived through the war years,[my uncles fought through the war years] sadly only one of three remain now.europe will never be united, dont you remember a small organation called, N.A.T.O. wich was formed after wwII,they have kept the peace in europe, not the europeans.[the french did not like that small club and spat the dummy out for quite a few years.as for our youn men needing nothing like wwII again, they have a small conflict called Afghanistan keeping them busy,[where some of our european allies wont go out when its dark] and to top it all the head of state of gt britain did not even get an ivvite to the 65th aniversary of D day, good old united europe, idnt think so. p.s. you dont say where in europe you live.

Dandc,
Strangely I live where you once served,Detmold. All the British Army has now moved from here, but their families still live in many of the surviving MQs in Detmold.I was stationed with the Royals in Hobart Bks,and with the Blues and Royals in Lothian.Detmold is quite a busy little town at present as they are marking the 2000th anniversary of the battle where Arminius defeated the Romans in the forests. Its an odd thing, but after WW2 the Allies declared that the Germans would never be allowed, and rightly so,to be in a position to wage war again. All this is now water under the bridge, and every effort is made to bring them into every world conflict.Who are you and I to judge if the war in Iraq or Afganistan is justified or not,and it is surely the right of any country to decide if they want to get involved in wars which to many can never be won.In my opinion the human race is hell bent on its own destruction! They never seem to learn!
Here endeth the lesson for today.
Best wishes
----
