Your dead on David, I read an interesting post and would like to see the profile of the guy or gal who posted it .. in many instances there is zero information. Come on Guys and Gals I am not asking for your bank PIN number, just a bit more background and a real name to a user name ..

anonymous ... 'oop's ..

Yes...I realized after I had registered that a 'nom de plume' wasn't necessary on this site as it is on some. In the short time I've been on line I've noticed that it seems to be a rather small circle of members that are on regularly. You're absolutely right...let's introduce ourselves.

My name is Roderick (Rod) MacIntosh and I live in a small town called Peachland in the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia, a semi-arid fruit growing area rapidly becoming a world-class wine region. (On closer examination the locater shows me in the north end of Kelowna which is about 14 miles away from me. Nothing like picking fly specs out of the pepper pot.) I look back on my BAOR years as wonderful times and enjoy this web page and forum very much.

My Name is Oliver K uehl,

I did a few years as a Doghandler MSO at Hildesheim with 1 RTR and AAC at Tofreck Barracks. I have worked at Depot Woehle just for one time. (I was not really excited about it.)

Then I was with 3 BAD Bracht, lived at the civvie Camp Hill Barracks and keept guard with my good old boy "Trince" at the Depot, Wortham Barracks, Married Quaters at "Tegeler Weg", Hill Barracks and the Master Camp.

I joined the forum to get in touch with old mates and reading about the "good old times" 20 years ago.

I was told it dates from Dickensian times when the gentry wore tall hats.
Office Clerks also wore tall hats,as the common name for the gentry was Nobbs, the common Clerk was mocked by being called Nobby,as though he had ideas above his station.

I was wondering about that, Alan...not sure about UK, but over here (Canada, but then by now y'all know that! LOL) it's a reference to a rather sophomoric little ritual one does to one's passed out buddy, usually photographed! It involves a forehead and...well...is this a family site?? LOL

My name, obviously, is Stephen Lock...I signed on sans user name specifically to try and see if any families/Army Brats I knew from my BAOR connected days were kicking around and hoped by using my real name, they'd have an 'aha' moment and get in touch. Hasn't happened yet. Oh well....(shrug)

I currently live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and have been here since 1972 when dad was stationed here after his tour in Germany. I had no desire to return to Canada whatsoever, let alone Calgary so made a deal with my parents that I would finish high school on the condition they assist me in getting back to Germany, which they did.

I fully intended on remaining in Germany, that was my plan (didn't tell the folks, though...I'd have been locked in for life!), but that didn't work out at all, sadly.

I returned to Germany in 1973 and back to Canada, and Calgary, again in 1974. I had absolutely no intention of staying in Calgary (I hated it!!), but I went to college, graduated, and....well...just stayed on and suddenly it's 30+ years later and, gad, I'm still in Calgary!! I don't hate it, but it really is not where I had planned to live my life, I can tell ya.

I'm attached (not married) and have a "fur child" -- a now 6-year old Bishon-King Charles Cavalier Spaniel (as far as we know) cross named Joey who is a great little dog and smart as a whip...a genius, I tell you, a freakin' little genius! He and I have long conversations, believe me

(Not sure if that says more about him or me LOL)

I used to do a bit of free-lance writing and some broadcasting for many years, but that wasn't paying us much at all (thankfully my partner worked but that eventually wasn't meeting the bills either) as well as some advocacy stuff. I finally took a job in a convenience store...again, not where I thought I'd be at this stage of my life, but there ya have it. Slowly rebuilding our lives after a devastating financial loss a few years ago. This site, believe me!, has been a godsend and, dare I say, a lifesaver.

There have been days when I was so down so low so fed-up I didn't know if I'd make it..."losing" myself in talk about Germany got me through it. It still does.

Thanks, you guys!!!

Oh! Ok then if we are all coming clean.

John Stephenson, ex- Worcestershire Reg, Minden early 60's.
I'm not sure how I discovered this site, but it was in a roundabout fashion via Google earth when I was looking for The barracks in Minden. I took the name wrinkles 'cos that's the one I use for most sites I visit and it gives a true impression of the miserable old goat that I am.
I do know another member of the site, Hardrations, from the colonies whom I hope to be taking a pint of two with in Oct when he pays one of his rare visits to these shores.( I hope none of his ex-girlfriends read this) Can't tell you anything else otherwise I'd have to kill you and quite frankly, these days, I don't have the energy or the inclination
