http://tinyurl.com/29mam8 I believe it's "Victoria" was it not? The other barrack was St. Louis (Canadian). Both sites are, sad to say, totally derelict. Stephen Lock Calgary, Alberta, Canada calgaryfella1953@hotmail.com

| all the camps were re named after penisular war battles when the brits took over. The camp next door was renamed Albuhera barracks. Vitoria should only have 1 L though. I thought it was spelt with two till i read the Sharpe books!!! | |

Which, having lived with the Brits for a year following the Canadian Closing Out, I knew!! The close similarity between "Victoria" and "Vitoria" rather threw me off LOL However, the other Cdn fort in Werl was St. Louis not St Lewis, albeit pronounced the same (at least by non-francophone Canadians :->) and somewhere in there (not terribly familiar with Werl) was a St. Anne barracks as well... I joined th Bn in 82.We were there until spring 85,though we did an Op Banner tour of West Belfast Dec 82 - April83.From Werl we were posted to Ritchie Camp, Kirknewton around 10 miles west of Edinburgh.

| I left Vittoria Bks Werl in early 1993, I was then the CQMS of the RMP Coy Everything was in pristine order, as it had been for years. My Son now lives in Werl, so when visitinghim we often drive past the gates. To any past members of hat camp, it would break your heart. The place is now a total ruin. The same applies to the camp next door. | |

I started off in B shop and then moved to Fire Support Fitter section. The Bn moved as you said in 85 and the REME lads stayed with the Royal Scots. I leeft Werl in 87 and have many fond memories of the place.
