Am I right in saying that a number of episodes of the series Soldier! Soldier! were filmed in Oxford Barracks in the Early 90's?
I seem to remember recognising some of the areas in the camp where filming was done- some around where 31 Fd Amb used to be.
It was after my time there, I left in 1976.

Yes mate, there was a series filmed there. They were kidding on to be an Armoured Infantry Bn. The Coldstream Guards were stationed in the camp at the time. A few mates were used as extras.
Block 1 at the front of camp and some pads were used.
Wish i had joined the Kings own Fusilers, they seemed to get all the best postings!!!!!

Many thanks for that.

On another note, are there any Royal Scots out there Just before I left 31 Fd Amb in '76, the Royal Anglians handed over to another Regiment and I am pretty sure that it was Scottish. The Royal Scots rings a bell - any substance in that??

I remember this program well...I think that a wedding was filmed at the garrison church in Buller barracks...I was married in that church back in 1973! At the time I was stationed at osnabruck with 12 field wksps Reme. From 1971 to 73 I did a tour in Buller with the Coldstream and Grenadier guards Lad.

We travelled from Paderborn to play the Guards at football at Oxford Barracks once, this would be about...1982 I think. After the game the home team usually entertains the away team. On this occasion one of the Guards came to our dressing room to speak with the senior player (who happened to be a WO2) We were indeed invited to their club for drinks, that is all of us except a black lad we had on our team, he was not invited! We couldn't believe it, they expected us to drink with them while one of our lads sat on the bus because he was black. We told them to get stuffed and left.

I seem to remember that there was a Security Section (Int Corps?) in Oxford Barracks whilst I was there. I think they were in one of the blocks next to the Gym.
Am I imagining things?

Sorry Paul I made a mess of your.info. Put it down to ignorance of the system. However , I am looking at a print of a picture of Munster, Princpalmarkt. It has the legend "1st Battalion the Royal Scots MUNSTER 1976-1979. So you were right. My wife was a SSAFA in Oxford at the time

Subject: Oxford Barracks Former Wehrmacht Kaserne Roxelerstr Münster 7/1/2013, 23:56
Hi There
I am writing to you regarding the former Wehrmacht Kaserne, Roxelerstr, Gievenbeck, now Oxford Barracks Münster, which was used as a Flakartillerie-Kaserne (anti-aircraft artillery) for the Luftwaffe and as Stabsquartier (headquarters) for the Ersatzstab (replacement Unit) of the VI. Armeekorps.
My request is concerned with a specific wall painting, which was placed most probably in the officers' mess south of the barracks on the other side of Roxelerstr or the mess hall inside the barracks.
I would like to find out, if the wall painting (which shows a scene from Goethe's Faust/Vor dem Tor/Soldaten: "Burgen mit hohen Zinnen") is still to be seen in the barracks and was not overpainted after the war.
I would be very grateful, if you could help me with my request.
Many thanks in advance for your help and support in this personal matter.
With best wishes for 2013.

Unfortunately you may be a month too late.
At the begining of this month there were ceremonies to mark the final departure of the last British Regiment to leave Munster. (The Yorkshire Regiment from "your" Oxford Barracks)
However there must be a rear party still there or someone who would have known where the Married Quarters were in Senden. Head for the Barracks which are off the Roxellerstrasse in the south west of the City. Enter Oxford Kaserne Munster Westfalen on your Google Earth search and you should get an accurate fix.
Good Luck with your project.

Dear webmaster, I am currently helping a German Archivist Alfred Anton with a Muenster town projekt which is about Oxford Barracks Regeneration and it's planned use from 2022 onwards ..... Alfred is a former Bundes marine seaman of around 70 years of age and has the task of writing about the Barracks from its inauguration in 1937/38 until the last BAOR/BFG forces left the Garrison ..... he has recently seen pictures of the barracks front gate and of Half-track training circa 1953/54 from a LCpl John Carruthers and has tried (he doesn't speak English) to contact the webmaster for permission to use the pictures .... they were posted some years back so it is not sure that LCpl Carruthers is still active on the site .... but Alfred wishes to be able to use the pictures and any on the site about Oxford Barracks or it's host battalions and families that lived in the service quarter areas ... Could someone advise me (and in turn Alfred) as to any contact details and / or how to gain contact or permission to use the pictures of the aforementioned front gate and half-track course pictures..?(Oxford Bks) I am hoping that contact can be made or at least some decision on usage can be made promptly for passing on to Alfred .... best regards Brian Eager former Irish Guardsman 24279051 1974-1987 at Oxford between 1983-85 (I was at the depot before and after so didn't do the full tour) Quis Separabit

Hi Brian,
Welcome to the site.
Re: Alfred, I personally have worked with him for sometime in the recent past. He will remember me! I appreciate you asking about the difficulties regarding Copyright on the UK and German side.
Additionally, Muenster Stadt are in contact with Alfred. Even loaning him lots of documents regarding the British from their Muenster Archives. Additionally I advised Alfredto discuss this with the Stadt if a photo is to be submitted to them before they Ok his work before finally going to print..
In essence, any photo submitted to him, must be an original taken by the owner of that photo etc and Certified by them.
I think the Copyright from German sources maybe a bit more complicated!
I have contacted Bettina Blum, a German lady. Bettina compiled her presentation of something similar, which she completed when the British were exiting BAOR. Bettina accepted some of my original photos for the BAOR presentation. Lets say those photos and others, which had been accepted and then finally taken onto the Museum Archive was a bit drawn out! I sent the original photos, including slides, which were then copied. The same will apply to photos submitted from willing Regiment Archives in the UK.
Sadly, Bettina is unable to get involved due to her current studies. So that route is out!
I do hope someone will come along from this site who maybe willing to help Alfred out.
Regards Alan Yates
PS. I was at the Irish Guards, REME LAD, Oxford Bks during 1978-79ish.
