- Have just recently taken my last pair of ankle boots out of the closet to use for yard work. They were the pair I had for parades or better know as, " C.O.'s Boots", toe capped and buffed down out of their pebbles by the local shoe maker in Deilinghofen. They still had a high shine ( I was taught well in the Cdn. Guards Depot). A bit tight but have loosened up and are comfortable. Fought off the temptation to give'em a good spit shine for old time sake.
There's a coincidence. Only yesterday I threw out my last pair of DMS boots that I had issued in 1969. They were originally my "bezzies" but had been abused and neglected for 30 years since leaving and have only just fallen to bits. They don't make 'em like they used to Mike

| I've just retired my working boots issued in '74 and started using my "best beets" from 1975. Somehow I fell more comfortable and relaxed when I go walking or hiking in my DMS than in any other brand of sports shoes. |

| Still have my #37 web belt. Which was last worn on parade in 69 in itchy scratch wool battle dress. Has the RC Sigs Corp buckle and brass D's, funny how it's shrunk over the years, won't go around my svelt waist.. Even some collar dogs from the T.W.'s. Most of my old wool battle dress kit ended up in a fire pit. | |

I think that may have been a product called Morello. Problem was it turned purple when it rained.

| Boots are mentioned in a WW1 book I'm reading at the moment. I quote- "Some of the logistical statistics are quite mind-numbing. For example 45,351,488 pairs of boots and 137,224,141 pairs of socks were supplied in four years ! It is worth noting that few soldiers were ever seen wearing items of pilfered German clothing, whereas, by 1917, British boots, jerkins and groundsheets had become prized booty among German troops".
They don't mention how many studs !

| I never heard of individual units having their own stud patterns, Jim but I wouldn't be surprised ! All I'm sure of was that the rule was thirteen studs on each boot.

brum 13 studs sounds right. At Harrogate (R Signals) the pattern from the toe backwards was 2-3-4-4. Mike
