Jenkins in Bad Oeynhausen

Dear readers,

I am living in Bad Oeynhausen at at the time i am studying at the faculty of history in Bielefeld.

I am trying to get in touch with my grandfather or anyone who knows him.

First, i want to tell you that i do not want to make any demands to Mr. Jenkins. I only want to know something about my roots. I imagine that he has his own family, if he is still alive.


All information i got about my Grandfather:

Name: Gwyn (Howard) Jenkins

Born: 1924 or 1925

Born / Lived: Wales/ County Glamorganshire

He must be stationated in Bad Oeynhausen/Germany in March /April 1948

He was called "Taffie" by his soldier friends (as many where, I think )

Things I have done so far:
I searched in der local archives here in Bad Oeynhausen, but there are no informations left.
I searched in several ancestry forums and also met nice people, who tried to held me.
A nice lady lookes for him in the brith indexes.
She found out, that there are some Gwyn Jenkins born between 1919 and 1927:

Dez Qtr 1919 Neath, Port Talbot, West Glamorgan
Juni Qtr 1921 Pontypridd, Mid Glamorgan
Dez Qtr 1924 Neath, Port Talbot, West Glamorgan
Mrz Qtr 1926 Bridgend, Mid Glamorgan
Juni Qtr 1927 Pontardawe, Swansea, West Glamorgan

She did not find a Gwyn Howard Jenkins or a Gwyn H Jenkins although my grandmother told me his name is Gwyn Howard Jenkins.

I was in touch with a really nice lady in Herford. She took my information to get an service record, but it failed, because the information i have is too less.

And finally, I wrote to the Soldier magazine. They printed a request in their magazine, but unfourtunately, I get no answers.

Anne, I would have been in Bad Oeynhausen around that time, But only as a baby I'm afraid.

It is going to be very difficult without a regiment or Corps and no Service number. But I wish you good luck in your search.

I thought about going to GB to take a look at the archives, but as a student time and money is rare
My father was born in January 1949. Mr. Jenkins and my grandmother met in BadO in March/April 1948. A little later, he had to move somewhere else.
At least, i hope to find out his regiment. My grandmother told me, that he was a "normal" infantry soldier. He was not an officer or a pilot etc. (You know what I mean?)

My father tried to locate him in the later 70s by contacting the Red Cross, but he couldnt get any information.

I never thought it would be so difficult.

Something different: As i wrote before, I grew up in BadO (all the young people her also call it "BadO" ) and study history in Bielefeld. If I can help someone with informations or pictures of today, tell me. I will visit the local archive in the next weeks and I will have a look, if I can scan some older photos.

Another coincidence here then Anne, I served in Ripon Barracks in Bielefeld in the mid '70's and lived in a Married Quarter in Oerlinghausen.
