Army barracks in Hamburg

Hi all,

In 1951 and 1952 my RE unit travelled [ a few times] from Osnabruck to Hamburg; which was our destination should the Russians attack. We would never have even got halfway!!

Question, from memory we stayed in a barracks, not too far from city centre; and believe on the opposite side of the street was a convent or something similar

Any idea when this barracks were?

That sounds like the one i had an overnight in en route to Eckernförde from Herford.Don`t remember a lot about it as we were allowed to take in the delights of Hamburg that night.

Has anyone got details of Transit Camps 124 and 125, their formation / disbanded; what unit ran these; is there any history available

V Company 40 Reinforcement Holding Unit was converted to 124 Transit Camp
Jan 46 – 124 Transit Camp, Herz Jesu Kloster Strasse, Gross Königsdorf west of Köln
admin Guards Division to Apr 46 then 10 Liaison HQ (British unit in the now Belgium Sector)  to May 46 then British Troops 1 Belgium Division area – clearly had moved to Hamburg District by 1949

33 Reinforcement Holding Unit was possibly converted to 125 Transit Camp
Jan 46 – 125 Transit Camp, Wavell or Dempsey Barracks, Hannover-Bothfeld with admin 51 (Highland) Infantry Division to May 46 then 40 (Hannover) Garrison to Oct 47 then 5 Infantry Division to Feb 48 then Hannover District – still there Oct 48
