Like the ubiquitous, (ubiquitous...get it ? eh ? eh ?) Shelldrake, I too did a spell in the servicing bay.

I remember the cheerfull cracking sound as my merry men blasted in the old XG 279 and blew all the seals in the Stalwart torsion bar housings.

You couldn't get the bloody staff, you know. Rolling Eyes

The Carry On movie about the lads doing their time in the Army. As soon as I see them in B.D I can smell it and feel it. Surprisingly even though I was Cdn Army it still hit close to home about the Cdn. Guards Depot.

Grease nipples the bain of my life. Why did they put them in such easily accsesible places ?

Funny how things varied between regiments.

I joined JLRRA at Hereford in '57.

Unlike the kids in the video we had the SD cap, never wore a beret until we got into Mustering Troop. Same SD/Denims combination though.

Can't say I feel nostalgic about those days. Too much like Penal Servitude !

I wouldnt have thought there were many really shortarses. wasnt there like a minimum hight you had to be in order to join ? or did they figure, yes well he is a bit short for the army, but he'll grow into it !
