| We briefly discussed the origins of the name Caledonia Barracks Varel some two years ago from a short list of Canadian Highland Regiments who were in the Wilhelmshaven area immediately after the end of WW2.
Options included the Black Watch of Canada, the Highland Light Infantry of Canada and the Canadian Scottish
However I found the definitive answer in my most recent visit to Kew
The war diary of theCanadian 2/9th (Highland) Infantry Brigade clearly states that 3rd Battalion North Nova Scotia Highlanders were allocated the Barracks when they returned to Germany after reorganising in Holland in August 1945.
