| Sad Sod that I am, I have plotted all the old Barracks and Installations in BAOR except for the exact loc. of the old 7Armd Bde in the town. I think it was at 52 59 24 31N, 9 50 55 27E entrance on Winsener Str.(Google Earth) It must be still intact as it is a listed site, I have been slightly thrown off track as there are no Sports Facilities or Tank Sheds (432etc) on site, although there is a sports pitch in the vicinity. I have tried every avenue I know on the Net with no success. The location I found hardest to locate(other than this) was Birdwood Bks- 2Div Sig Regt in Bunde but managed it in the end.Hopefully someone can put me out of my misery. Absolutly Brilliant Site, keep it up,Mucker ! Why do Squaddies depicted on TV always have NAAFI Plates in their Berets ????? | |

| At last I have found proof that the location of Bournemouth Bks is indeed where I thought it was(see last posting) managed to find out by using a German Website dedicated to WW2. | |

| I spent three years at Bournemouth Barracks, Jan 1980 - Jan 1983. At that time the two units that shared Bournemouth Barracks were 1st Armoured Div Ordnance Company (1 ADOC) and a signal squadron, Task Force Alpha (TFA). The block that looked onto the street was the main accomodation and consisted of CQMS offices & various stores in the basement, offices & admin on the ground floor (Ord left hand side of the block & Sigs right hand side) First floor was singlies accomodation for the Ord Coy, second floor was singlies accomodation for the Sig Sqn, the attic was empty (sadly no bar) There used to be heavy wrought Iron gates under the bridge at the camp entrance with the guardroom on the right and a sangar opposite.
(I was Ordnance btw) | |

| By shere coincidence I was in the Aldershot military library today looking for more info for "the project"
Came across details of 94 (Dorset and Hampshire) Field Regiment RA One of the Batteries was raised in Bournemouth at the start of WW2 and who were based i Soltau in mid May 45. Suspect therefore they had a hand in naming the Barracks known by many in subsequent years
Will pass on more details to Steve but in the meantime back to the drawing board | |
