Hardration,
I think that I related this story before but I'll bore you a second time. During my early grade schooling, I am still able to remember one of my teachers with a German surname scrolling down the blackboard wall map which displayed a vast sea of red from east to West and then with a sudden burst of pride would announce with very moving and emphatic words,''the sun never sets on the British Empire''. At the risk of sounding like a member of the Monarchist League of Canada, I can say without hesitation that I was sorry to see the setting of the sun on the use of the Red Ensign by our Federal Government even though its use will be perpetuated from the Atlantic to the Pacific almost universally by our Provincial Governments. Hardration, you were a witness to an historic and memorable moment in Canadian history and you saw it played out well ahead of Canadians back home. Thanks for sharing your memories and pictures with us.

Well some of the pictures have dissapeared but both officers Black Watch and the one bringing down the ensign are saluting with left hand. So it has to be me scanning them backwards.

Y'know, I remain unconvinced.

Having had a closer look, I still think that the officer is actually saluting with his left hand !

It`s a mirror image..Stick a mirror in front of the pic and he`s saluting with his eright hand.
It`s a hobby of mine picking up the same in newspapers.

I have a Mac .. downloaded the picture .. clicked on 'flip horizontally' .. bingo, saluting with right hand.

Unfortunately I can't 'e'mail it as I saved it to PDF format for later use in a newsletter I produce for our Anavet Unit .. what I did notice however, is the photographers name in the left hand salute version is reproduced correctly in the bottom right of the picture, if it had been reversed when you copied the slide it would be reversed and appear in the bottom left hand corner as it is in the copy I 'flipped' ... so ridiculous as it would appear, it looks like the Black Watch wallah is actually saluting with his left hand.
