REME at 4adsr BFPO 15

Hi, I'm looking for any REME lads that served with me at Hammersmith Barracks between 81 and 84.

Welcome Taff..Bit after my time,, but you never know your luck..Some strange and wonderfull things happen here..

Thanks Gordon, Yep - i've got some great memories of Hammersmith & Wentworth barracks and the town. It was my first overseas posting and i thought it was great...

Herford was my first too and i hated it...

I also didn't like Herford (Wentworth - 1952) ... for some unknown reason the local boozer landlord did not like 6 Armd Div .. wouldn't serve us .. we were temp housed by 11 Armd Div who had no problems. The mess hall was down the road from Wentworth and we had to pass a Girls School and the little darlings would pelt us with anything on hand.

Oops !! I opened a can of worms there did'nt i. It obviously got better as time got on.

I was at Maresfield,so tended to visit Bad Salzuflen rather than Herford

I remember Maresfield Barracks, i think it was just up the road from me. A few times i was called upon to drop parts off to 7 sigs (lad).
During my time at Hammersmith the other units in Herford were 7 Sigs & 1RTR ( later replaced by Hussars i think ) so you can imagine what the weekends were like - Tasty to say the least....

where and when were you in Bielefeld Taff

Hi. I was only there a couple of months in 83. Think it was Mossbank Barracks, HQ 1 BR Corps.

You may remember me. John Willmouth. I was the inspections Sgt in the LAD. I'm still in touch with (then AQMS) Jimmy Gardner who was commissioned into the Medics and he is still in touch with Jack Iveson who you may not remember. He was EME when I arrived in '79. But I suspect by the time you got there Capt. John Pover was OC LAD. Cpl. Jimmy Randle (Ra Ra) has settled in Leicester. I saw Sgt Dave Joseph some years ago (at least 15-20) running a coffee shop in Abergavenny (? - Aber something anyway) with a stunning German lady called Elizabeth. They're not there now and I've got no idea where they went. That's all I've got for you, except you are probably unlikely to recall a Staff Clerk with Div HQ called Del Carey. He and I arrived in Herford on the same day and made friends waiting outside the RSMs office when booking in. He lived in Trowbridge, about 6 miles from here. However I haven't seen him or his wife Ulla for some years, so I suspect they may have moved back to her home town - Bad Sal (Bad Sulzuflen? can't remember the spelling)
