| Gents, We had the same problem with our church website and eventually decided to migrate the whole thing to Weebly because the replacement offered by MS is expensive and frankly, not suitable. It seems to work very well. The costs are relatively low but the days of completely free websites seem to have gone forever. | |

| Microsoft have sent out a series of warnings about closure over the last 3 months. They say that 30 Apr 12 is the date on which all MS Office Live sites, of which this is one, will be closed on that date. Hence St Mary's reason for going elsewhere. | |

| Look at my messages above. I would be entirely happy to take part of this on but I'd need considerable assistance.
It is interesting to note that at this time (1604 on a Sunday afternoon) no one has come forward with anything positive and yet there apear to be 65 guests online. That says something about the perceived value of the site.
And poor old Freddy Mercer at the BBC has received no support at all! What are we all coming to?

| I've just found this site following a thread in the ARRSE Old & Bold forum saying that it was closing down.
I haven't read through any entries but if the problem is looking for a hosting site then I might be able to help. I manage the Royal Signals Contact website royal-signals.org.uk and may be able to offer space on our server?
PM me if you think I can be of assistance.

| Gentlemen
This is a very sad day with the demise of the site in its current format
My thanks to Steve and Mike for their valiant efforts to keep it going after our original webmaster jumped ship
There is an absolute wealth of history and experiences relevent to the History of BAOR to be found on these pages and it is good to know that Steve has found away to preserve this vital data
We have had our achievements over the years Personally I think the History of the Canadian presence in BAOR compiled by Stephen Locke for the Soest years and Bob Ritters input on the Hannover days plus the contributions from others makes a unique record record not easily found elsewhere (Steve and I are attempting to construct a similar data base for the 45/46 period but it is a challenging tasks) Other memorable moments over the past 5 years include 1 Reuniting the long lost brother and sister 2 The Tasmanian based Ferret now sporting the correct 9/12th Lancers colours of the 1960s 3 Helping the daughter of a Jewish survivor of a concentration camp trace her mothers movements in the immediate post war period
As Steve has mentioned elsewhere he and I intend to continue to research and record the early days of BAOR, hopefully to be published on Steve's site and on BAOR Locations should the site be ever resurrected in its current format
Good luck to all our contributors past and present and a special mention to the General Staff who have provided many hours of light hearted banter to lift the spirits in an other wise dull world.

| A while back, I logged on one morning to find that artillery-friends.net had closed down. Sounds silly but it left a hole for a while. If I wake up tomorrow to find that this excellent site has gone the same way, then let me say that I've enjoyed reading the solid history matter and the daft banter on here. I'll miss you blokes. Good luck. Haaarumph ! (sniff !). | |
