| I am trying to find more information on this Soldier who served in Germany and Austria 1947 - 48 during the Allied Clean-up post WW2. I am selling on behalf of his family members, his uniform and Trench Coat with all buttons included but less hat, and 4 Photo albums of images taken will on service, starting from his Training at Tidworth Feb 1947 to August 1948 heading back to England. Many images of other Officers outside Officers' Mess, ie. Officers Mess at St. Veit, Austria, R.S.D Officers Mess, Klagenfurt , Officers Mess 3 B.A.D., Liebenau, GERMANY '48, to 154 AMN. Depot, Wulfen, RUHR. Also included are approx 20 letters sent to his Parents in New Zealand sent to the Head Masters House of Wanganui Collegiate.
His Father, Frank W. Gilligan, was the Head Master of Wanganui Collegiate in New Zealand, which earned him an OBE for teaching. He was also a famous cricketer in the '20's along side his 2 brothers whom Captained for England.
Any additional information on this officer would be extremely helpful and I thank you for your time with any assistance. Regards Ric Main New Zealand

Welcome I cannot add much to the information you already have but believe the individual concerned must have been awarded a Hostilities only Regular Army Emergency Commission into the Royal Army Ordnance Corps.
He appears to have ended the war in Austria therefore he must have fought his way up north through Italy as part of the remnants of Monty's Desert 8th Army (a significant part were brought back to the UK in Spring 1944 to take part in the DDay Landings. Those left in Italy were subsequently unfairly known as "D Day dodgers".
RSD stands for Returned Stores Depot, BAD for Base Ammunition Depot, and AMN for Ammunition.
We do have a few contributors who served in both Liebenau and Wulfen in later years , they might be able to provide some detailed answers to specific questions
