PostSubject: The two 37 Regiments in Osnabruck   The two 37 Regiments in Osnabruck Icon_minitime31/7/2012, 01:00

Hi all,

Looking through the photos in "forgottenhistory" of "Roberts Barracks", there are a few shots of my old block 12, identified by the ivy growing up near front entrance. Who got rid of the ivy? Was there from 1936 to after 1952

In 1936 the German Infantrie Regiment 37 was in residence; in 1950 moved in 37 Army Engineer Regiment RE

The IR37 left Osnabruck at the begining of the war and was wiped out in Stalingrad; we were the lucky ones

Thanks to those who put up fogottenhistory website

Regards
Tony

Tony, I would imagine some overzealous RSM/CSM, with no idea of history, was responsible for the demise of the Ivy. Perhaps it was included in the annual Leaf Clearing exercise? Rolling Eyes

Another one of these Chinese Whisper things maybe ............ CO dictates there'll be no leave until after an important fixture which is coming up, RSM overhears Adjt telling someone else down the line, jumps he gun, waves his pace stick at a passing squaddy and bellows out, as though he has thought of it," We'll have no leaves lad ! Get rid of that ivy, jildi !!!!!"

I had to laugh at this. If you were part of HQ Troop in block 12, you had a DAILY leaf clearing exercise for weeks - of the Officers mess car park.

Just cut the damn trees down, will ya.
