| Gentlemen
Your ADCs have not been briefing you correctly
200 postings is the qualification to enter the Officers' Mess but the reward is immediate promotion to Captain (no Rupert Subalterns in this revered organisation).
Bob Ritter will be delighted at being relieved of the onerous task of being Junior Member and therefore Mr Vice at all formal Mess functions.
Pinky Are you still sure you want to be promoted to Commissioned rank? | |

| FM Gordon
You need to sack both your ADC and MA, both have seriously misled you
There was some confusion over the rules for promotion in Summer 2011 (certain senior members claimed to have been demoted).
Webmaster Mike republished the Rules in June 2011 (Promotion Section Page 13)
200 posts was the qualification for promotion to Captain as Bob Ritter will confirm

Nope, but I do remember the Thompson SMG she kept under the bar. That bit of information came about, by my asking her how far the Turks came up Regina St. in 74 and if the Turks got as far as her bar? She immediately disappears into the back room, reappearing with a Thompson SMG (sans mag) stating, " No f***ing Turks gets into Ellen's Bar".

| Reviving the thread and going back on topic. We OR's of the QRIH were compelled to wear ties with shirts, itchy, on the tank park until about 1981 before they allowed us to wear bottle green polonecks instead, which had to be purchased from the PRI at around £6.50 a kick! | |

| Wore them in Korea. initially we had a camo scarf, then some Korean entrepreneur made one for the MP's, looked good so it became standard dress .. Signals was powder blue .. and in civvy street in the 50's and 60's all the rage.

| The caravat thingy started for the Canadians in Germany by 1 SSM Bty. Some one looked up som history on rockets. Found out that personel who fired Congrave Rockets way back in the war of 1812 at Washington were given the right to wear black thingies around the neck. So in 1966 minding our own business in Sennelager on Ex. we were issued with black scarves. Then every buddy else got into the act. The RC Sigs ended up were wearing French Gray. I know we were still wearing them when I pensioned of in 82 except by then I was Logistics. | |

| Subject: Old Army Kit & What to do with it!! 9/5/2013, 21:09 | |
| Do any old timers still have articles of army kit in their possesion. For many years, I had a kit bag full of Army kit etc after I decided to sign up for the Reserves, which meant a once a year visit Colchester Garrison to be lectured to and have a kit check and various other admin functions, including signing for the £100-00 annual bounty. Then the tax man too £25-00 of this.... b'stids!! At the age of 60, I was advised by MoD that I no longer had to report annually. I wondered what to do with the old kit I Had. For a number of years, until last year when I was 67, I kept this kit bag full of clothes etc collecting dust in a dark corner of my flat. Last years, I decided to kick it all into touch, as I doubted that the MoD wanted the items back to be struck of the MoD Form 1157 I had signed years before. So being somewhat a frighted, I took my kitbag outside, along with an old army suitcase and dumped them in the next door neighbours wheelie bin. So I said goodbye to my old past, as I doubt at the age I am that the RMP or QM Stores at Colchester Garrison are coming knocking on my door to ask for the kit back at the age I am. or for some Jobsworth in MoD and R Sigs Records in Glasgae to decide to call me back to 'Duty'......?? I only have a few items of old kit, an old R Sigs Stable Belt that I cannot get round my middle... too many pies and other foodstuff over the years. It is strange that I have taken more than 35 years to finally shed all my remnants of Days of Yore when I was a Hero and Warrior (so it was alleged) of this Nation. Does anyone else, Old timers or recently demobbed, still hold on to old items of uniform for old times sakes...? | |
