LS&GC

Boy's Service did count for the LS & GC. I joined in 1949 and became entitled to it in 1967. Received the actual medal from the Mayor of Richmond on a parade at catterick in 1968 whilst serving with 11 Signal Regiment.

Jim...Read the award criteria on the MOD site.Like Bob you may have had some boy`s service to wards it but only after age 17.5

Further to the subject of LS & GC qualifying time etc, have dug out from my Army Records (A copy I received from Army Personnel Centre in 2007) and have been looking at Army Form B 176 which is entitled 'Recommendation for Long Service and Good Conduct Medal. The date of completion of requisite service is 7th Sept 1967. Since I enlisted and joined Army Apprentices School on 8th Sept 1949, that makes 18 years from joining up in 1949. So based on this evidence, I qualified for the LS & GC after completing 18 years service INCLUDING boys service.

Of course the rules on the MOD web site are the current rules. What were they prior to 1977? If anyone has an old copy of AGAIs (Pre 77) in their attic then this would provide a definite ruling on the award of the LS&GS, until then we are reliant upon our memories and we know how distorted they can become.
