THAT TIME OF YEAR.

Just thought I`d drop in to wish everyone a ...

Yey, a Merry Christmas and New year to all Forum members..... may your postings be good, your turkey Lunch better, adn your Beer be warm......

Hmm, this time of the year - reminds of a quite a few drunken Xmases in BAOR, especially New Years Eve in the Corporals Mess, celebrating each new year event as the various world time zones clicked past. Wow! Many a thick headed, puke stained night was had by a few, mois aussi!! We always pitied those guys on duty, either the Fire Piquet, or in the Guardoom.

It was the next day either on Boxing Day and New Years Day that very few people dragged themselves out of their pits to go to the Cookhouse for breakfast. The mess, the various barrack blocks were in - puke, piss and shit everywhere in the khazis. Puke in the snow outside the blocks, and piss stains in the snow, widdle stains all the way from the NAAFI front door back to the barrack block with drunken attempts to sign one's signature in the snow!!

It was cleaning the mess up that was abind, before the nexxt duty day, usually on or about the 27th of December after all merry making and boozing was done. Until the following week at New year, then it all occurred again .

Also can remember an Xmas and New year in a hot, sandy place, Bahrien. We had to be a bit more careful, warned not to upset the locals as they didn't take kindly to drunken infedels staggering around the capital, Manama. So it was a case of screwing in the bob, being a bit sensible when out at local restuarants, the 'Speedbird' Hotle and Bar in Manama where international flight aircrews stayed overnight, and occasionally wealthy young Bahrainese men would come in dressed in the Arab gowns, to partake of Bells whiskey, and otehr 'spiritous liquor's that was Haram to them. But they came anyway to ahve discreet drinks. Nobody bubbled them, so long as it was done discreetly.

All, now a long, long time ago now, in my youth when I was a 'Hero & Warrior' of this nation, so it was alleged!!

That time of the year.... Sobriety was a pain, unless on duty. 'Brahms & Litz' was the order of the day... well, for a few hours, unless some twonk decided to have some "fun" and trigger a 'quick Train' call out over this time period... whcih as far as memory serves me, didin't happen..... I think?

I used to do my party trick in the Corporal's Mess.... grab a couple of white bedsheets off a bed, dress up as Julius Ceasar, and declaim in a drunken fashion Brutus's speech....."Friends, Romans and Citizens and Tosspots...burrrp!!... lend me yer lug holes....!" und so weiter....

It generally ended up with me falling over and having to sit down.... as for my bedsheets, they got stained with beer, mud or other 'stuff' as I wended my weary way back to the accommodation block....
