I never came across any 5 mark Annie, (if you'll pardon the expression). There was, however, a 5 mark Monika of Reinsehlen fame.

| When we arrived at Reinsehlen Monika and her sidekick, (Four Mark Fifty Fiona), were already in situ but the guard reported seeing the "ladies" being picked up by a Merc very early in the morning. | |

Back to the subject in hand I always thought the most senior NCO in the British Army was the rank of Conductor in the RE's, or have I got that completely wrong.

| There was a SSM (conductor) RASC attached to the ACC School in Duisburg in 1953/4. It was accepted that he was the most senior WO in the garrison. I believe there were also Conductors in the RAOC -- and yes, Gingerjim, also on the trams!!!. I think the position may now have been abolished. | |

In the RASC they were known as 'Staff Sargeant Majors First Class' with WO1's known as 'Staff Sargeant Majors' Only in the RAOC were they known as 'Conductors' & 'Sub-Conductors. After the RASC supply funtions were absorbed by the RAOC in 1965, it took till 1967 to sort out the ranks to 'Conductor' for Senior WO1's (ex RAOC title) and 'Staff Sargeant Major' for WO1's (ex RASC title) _________________ Sua Tela Tonanti

| The three most senior warrant officer appointments in the British Army are generally considered to be, in descending order of seniority, the Conductor RLC, Academy Sergeant Major, and the Garrison Sergeant Major, London District, although there is some debate about their precedence within the army. |
